With an ever-growing following of over 73 million on Instagram, it’s not surprising that controversy follows the reality TV selfie queen. But when Kim posted 'that' picture (you know which one we mean), it definitely divided a nation of internet trolls and celebrities alike. Some shamed the half-naked selfie because she's a mother while others claimed she was empowering women and therefore encouraged the post.
At the time, Kim was reluctant to add to the debate. Perhaps her silence made that bit interesting but she's now broken her silence. Speaking on the podcast Recode Decode, she hit back saying, “I truly was baffled when people still cared. They have seen me naked 500 times! The censor bar literally was probably more covered than a bikini. I could not grasp how people were so outraged. Some people were outraged because I’m a mom, but others were more positive.”
She has a point, we are baffled too.
“My personality has never been, ‘I’m such a feminist and follow me and be naked!’” she said. “If you are conservative and that’s how you are comfortable, more power to you. I respect you. You don’t have to do what I do or look at what I do.”
It’s true; if you are offended then surely you just choose not to follow her on social media? Top tip: if you're against nudity, Kim Kardashian's Instagram is probably not for you.
Our favourite part of Kim’s response has to be that she posts these kinds of photos when she’s feeling confident and not that she is seeking anyone’s approval.
“I’m not looking to provoke a reaction,” she said. “I’ll post what I’m comfortable with. Some days I’m confident, some days I’m not. I’ll send it to my husband, if he’s into it and thinks it looks good – that’s the only reaction I care about. But if I take the photo and I like it, I’ll post it.”
As firm believers in body confidence ourselves we salute you Ms Kim K!
