Why did you want the procedure?

Having BA (breast augmentation / enlargement) surgery is something I’ve wanted for a very long time but never thought it’d actually happen! At the age of 17 I started bodybuilding and the fluctuation in my weight caused my boobs to shrink 2 full cup sizes over the years. It began to have a negative effect on my confidence as I was working hard to improve my body, yet it was causing me to dislike other areas. I was becoming more self-conscious about my boobs, I hated wearing swimsuits/bikinis and I struggled to find outfits that I felt comfortable in due to being so flat chested. Like I said, I worked hard on my body yet felt the need to cover up all the time and hide behind my clothes to avoid any attention on my chest. I’d just come back from holiday and spent the whole time telling myself I’d have had such a better time with boobs! I knew then that this when I needed to start doing my research!

Why did you choose MYA as your cosmetic surgery provider?

I’d always known MYA was the company I’d go to; I never even bothered looking elsewhere as I’d only ever heard and seen good things about MYA. I followed MYA’s social media accounts and signed up to the Forum which was a HUGE help through the researching process as well as the build up towards surgery (I’d 100% recommend this if you’re at the research stage). The Forum was most helpful when coming away from an appointment with my PC/Surgeon as you tend to forget all the questions you had and information you were given! I’ve also made some very good friends through the Forum, as a lot of other girls having surgery in the same month made a WhatsApp group and we’ve chatted non-stop ever since!

Were your friends/family/partner supportive?

I decided to tell my parents about having BA surgery when I’d booked my first consultation. To begin with they were quite uncertain as they couldn’t understand why I wanted to undergo such a big procedure (but to be honest, parents can’t see your imperfections). I think my parents thought I was going to end up like a doll with ridiculously big boobs and spoil my look as they always think the worst! But once I’d sat them down and explained how I felt and assured them I was going through a genuine company with an experienced surgeon, they soon came around to the idea and had my back the whole way! My boyfriend has always had an earful from me twisting on and on about wanting a breast enlargement, so he helped me take the next step and get the ball rolling. He’s been a huge support since day 1 and he's also satisfied with the results haha!

How was your consultation?

Once I’d had my first consultation with Julie I knew this was the right thing for me and I wanted them there and then! I had no hesitation placing my deposit and arranging a second consultation. Julie was a great help from start to finish, she gave me all the information I needed and made me feel so at ease! Due to having holidays already booked, I couldn’t have my surgery as quickly as I wanted so had to arrange for the beginning of the new year. I wish I bit the bullet earlier and had my procedure the previous year so I had my new additions in time for my holidays, but I’m blessed with them now and would never ever look back!!

How would you describe your surgeon?

Whilst sitting in the waiting room for my second consultation, there was a lady just a few days away from her surgery. She was chatting to her PC about her surgery date and surgeon and she had nothing but good words to say. During my consultation I mentioned that I’d overheard the conversation about surgeon Gary Traynor and asked for more information. He seemed to be very popular and I’d seen his name mentioned often on the Forum for all the right reasons. It took no time at all for me to decide Gary was the man for the job and I booked my consultation to meet him. He was very kind, honest and straight to the point. I’d been given the heads up about his dry sense of humour and abrupt personality, which made me like him more! I knew if anyone was going to be honest with me, it’d be Gary, and from reading the Forums I knew to trust your surgeon’s decision. So, I told Gary the results I wanted and let him manage the rest. I didn’t feel the need to have another meeting with Gary as my decision had been made, the next time I met Gary was the day of surgery!

How was the day of your procedure?

The procedure itself felt like it was over in a flash! I’d never been put to sleep before so had no idea what to expect. I didn’t once feel nervous on the day of my surgery as every member of staff in the hospital was so lovely and reassuring. The hardest part was going the day without food haha! There was a delay on the day of my surgery which meant I didn’t go under until 7pm; it was such a lonnnnnng day because I was so excited, but it was lovely to have my own room with a TV, which helped pass time. Once Gary had been in the room to draw markings on me, he asked me: ‘are you sure you want to do this?’. I was never going to consider not but it was thoughtful of him to ask! Within 15 minutes I was taken into surgery and put to sleep. I pulled round from the anaesthetic within 10 minutes and had no side effects from the medication. I wasn’t in pain at all, which I was so surprised about but I just had a tight feeling across my chest. I stayed in a local hotel that night before heading home in the morning and stayed topped up on my medication through the night.

How was your recovery?

I was so surprised with how easy my recovery was. I never found myself to be in pain, just slight discomfort from the tightness across my chest and it almost felt like I’d been winded. I avoided taking unnecessary medication and stuck to paracetamol and ibuprofen only. My mam was a great help to me as I had the first week off work to rest. I sharply learnt that I couldn’t do your everyday things like opening/closing doors and flushing the loo. My ab game was very strong as I had to force myself up using my tummy muscles only!! Week 2 was the best because I was allowed to remove my dressings and was granted a full body shower which was BLISS!! Throughout the whole 6-week recovery I had no problems at all and having read up on what to expect after surgery really helped. I wasn’t worried in the first week when I had cone shaped boobs as I knew the shape would improve over time (dropping and fluffing is a god send). By 3 weeks my boobs really began to take shape and look more natural as the weeks went on. I took regular pictures throughout my recovery so I could compare the changes each week which was also a big help! The hardest part through the whole process for me was having time away from the gym, I was itching to get back into a routine again as I started feeling and looking like a potato!!

Are you happy with your results?

I’m now approaching 6 months post op and I couldn’t possibly be happier with my results. I have so many people compliment me on how natural my boobs look and how they are the perfect size for my frame. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat! I never imagined a surgery as big as this to be such a breeze. They feel like part of my body now and I often forget they aren’t real!

Would you recommend this procedure and MYA to others?

I’d 100% recommend MYA, Julie and Gary Traynor to anyone in question as I’ve never been happier with my decision.

What tips would you give other woman looking to have this procedure?

If I was to offer any advice to other women looking to have a breast enlargement surgery, the number one thing would be to do your homework! Don’t book with a company because they're X amount cheaper than another. Make sure you know what you’re getting for your money and ensure you have the aftercare in case you need it. Don’t be scared to ask questions! Prepare yourself for the first few weeks, your boobs will take time to settle into place so don’t be disheartened if they don’t look perfect or look different every day. But if something in you is telling you, you want to do it, or you’re unhappy with how you look, DO IT!

What are you looking forward to the most now that you have had your procedure?

The mental effect it’s had on me has been incredible and I’ve never felt so comfortable in my own body. I can now wear more flattering clothes and swimwear, so I can’t wait to book a holidayyyyyyy!!!!
