Sometimes even a strict diet and exercise regime won’t shift weight from certain parts of our bodies, leaving us feeling self-conscious about those areas. It is at this point when many people turn to liposuction.
Understanding Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction is not to be used as a way of losing weight or tackling obesity, and if you fall into these categories, you should seek medical advice from your GP. Before your consultation, we will assess your body mass index (BMI) to make sure you’re suitable for the procedure.
There are physiological limitations on the amount of fat that can be removed during one procedure, so before considering liposuction, it’s important to have a realistic expectation of your desired results. This will be discussed during your consultation.
Liposuction removes fat from deposits beneath the skin using a hollow steel tube (a cannula), along with a powerful vacuum to reshape the area of treatment. The procedure is carried out using general or local anaesthetic.
After the procedure, you’ll have small incision sights so it’s compulsory to wear your supplied garment for 6 weeks in order to reduce swelling and leave you with the best possible results. As liposuction can treat multiple areas at one time, the procedure can vary from 30 minutes - 2 hours. We suggest you take 7-10 days off work to ensure a healthy recovery.
