A slender and flat stomach can help boost confidence, as well as create a tighter and more youthful looking abdomen. It’s something that both men and women desire. That is where MYA’s abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure comes in.
There are many reasons why you might choose to have a tummy tuck. Weight loss, aging or multiple pregnancies can all leave damaged muscles and unwanted excess skin. Check out our before and after photos to see what expert work of our surgeons.
An abdominoplasty procedure can take between 1.5-3 hours with either a 1 or 2-night stay in hospital; the latter being when combined with another procedure, i.e. a tummy tuck and liposuction.
The procedure involves an incision being made across the lower abdomen, with a second around the navel. The muscles are then pulled tight and stitched into place. Once the excess fat and skin are removed, a new navel is created.
Mini Tummy Tuck
If you have a small amount of excess skin to the lower area of your abdomen, your surgeon may suggest a mini tummy tuck. With this procedure it is not necessary to repair the muscle. The navel also does not need to be repositioned, while the size of the lower abdomen incision is usually reduced.
After your Tummy Tuck
You will need to rest for 7 – 14 days after undergoing abdominoplasty. The procedure has been described as being similar to a C-section meaning your mobility will be restricted for the first few days immediately after surgery.
We commonly use dissolvable stitches, so you’ll need to keep this area clean and dry during your initial recovery. We will also supply you with a compression garment to be worn to aid the healing process and to reduce any swelling and bruising.
You should usually wait 6 weeks to return to any physical activity following your surgeon consultation. This should also be at a beginner level to ensure appropriate healing.
