Many men and women desire a slender, flat stomach. Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedures create tighter, more youthful looking abdomens and provide a life-changing confidence boost. Patients who opt for this kind of surgery often have a variety of reasons for doing so. Rapid weight loss, heavy pregnancies and the process of aging can all damage our muscles and leave us with unwanted, excess skin.
Our Manchester Clinic
Our second largest clinic after the MYA London Fitzroy hospital, the MYA Manchester clinic has a knowledgeable and experienced team of coordinators, clinical nurses and consulting surgeons, meaning you’ll be in the best possible hands.
Our extremely sought after surgeon, Mr Traynor, consults for abdominoplasty and will talk you through your journey from start to finish and ensure you have the best quality aftercare.
Tummy tuck procedures can take up to 3 hours from start to finish due to their complex nature.
Two incisions will be made, the first being across the lower abdomen and the second around the navel. The abdominal muscles are then pulled tighter and stitched into position and any excess skin and fat will be removed. Once this is done a new navel will be created.
Your surgeon may recommend that you have a mini tummy tuck if you only have a small amount of excess skin. This version of the procedure doesn’t require any muscle repair or repositioning of the navel. The lower incision will also usually be smaller.
After the Procedure
We recommend a rest period of 7 - 14 days after undergoing a tummy tuck. Your mobility will be restricted during the first few days after surgery.
You will also need to ensure you wear your supplied compression garment which will help the area to heal and keep any swelling and bruising down. Dissolvable stitches are commonly used in this procedure, so you should aim to keep your abdomen clean and dry. You can return to physical activity after 6 weeks, though you should keep this to a low-impact, beginner level at this early stage.
