So a brief explanation. Surgery was booked as a day case 26th July, the evening before it was postponed the evening before due to insufficient medical history. Ive spent a very long 2 days gathering information, letters, chasing medical ppofessionals etc etc and finally late this afternoon I have been signed off. The next available date offered is Friday 29th as a night case. After that 2nd August which will not work alongside my work/childcare commitments. Mya said the night case is more expensive and is going to try and get this discounted given the circumstances. My question is, has anyone ever got around staying in over night, swapped with someone on a day case or anything similar? I dislike hospitals and I find myself restless and constricted when I’ve ever been before. I just want to get home to in my own comfort and my own bed. Lol!!

Did you already give them a GP letter or was it the first time they asked for one? I’ve given them my letter which they’ve accepted but if they do this to me I’ll be beyond furious

I know you’re upset about staying over but I stayed over and I loved it. It’s more like a nice hotel than a hospital. You have a nice big room with en suite and a TV with loads of channels on it. Everyone is so nice and I had terrible sickness after the anaesthetic so it’s a good job I was staying over as I never would have made it home okay. Try not to worry about staying over. I know it’s not ideal but you will be very well looked after xxx

Awww Rach you must be so frustrated having your Op cancelled the night before.
I wouldn’t worry about staying over hun if I were you. As Becky says it not at all like a hospital more like a hotel. I was a day case and my admission time was 2pm, in Preston, I live in Leeds, I went down for my Op at about 4.30pm ish and I was on my way home at 10.30pm. I was exhausted! it was such a long day I just wanted to sleep, we didn’t get home till midnight and I was sick on the way home so in hindsight I think I would have preferred to stay over night (Please I hear the food is lovely!) xx

They had already had a GP letter but my situation was a little more complicated and they wanted further evidence which didn’t arrive on time 🙁 any who, this does reassure me, it’s just the idea staying over with people I don’t know etc. Hopefully I have a late admission and I can get to sleep soon after surgery! I have no worries about the care etc just the idea of not being in my own bed haha pre op worries I guess! Thanks girls! Xx

Just a little update! So my admission time is 1pm, I had to pay another £200 also. As much as I’m looking forward to finally having my surgery a lot of the excitement has now gone. Meh! Xx

They’ve also told me there’s no way I’ll be leaving the same night. How other people’s experiences can vary so widely has really baffled me! Xx

I had a 4pm admission time and was discharged at midnight. I wasn’t given an option to stay overnight is this at Preston? It may be due to your medical history they require you to stay over. Maybe discuss it with your pc xx

Hi, no its a Fitzroy. I have asked and stated other girls from the forum have been let out but they said I wasn’t aloud to because I’m a night case and something to do with legally only allowed to have 6 day cases. It’s all very confusing I even said they could keep the extra money they made me pay for a bed I didn’t want! 2 of my friends have recently had surgery and we’re discharged within 2-3hours of surgery. One got home at midnight! After a 10am admission time! All craziness lol xx

Hey! Luckily for me I stopped taking pain killers the following day and I’ve had next to 0 pain! I’m sleeping fine I just had a bit of back ache and bloating which was slightly uncomfortable! I’m a complete winger when I haven’t eaten so I just spent every other WhatsApp teary to my friends talking about food watching come dine with me. I can laugh now but as soon as I came round the first thing I said was can I eat lol and then I think the mya nurses thought I was a little odd as I was literally a conveyer belt until about 1am just toast after toast after toast! Haha francesca was my night nurse and she made my stay for me to be honest. She even started bringing me a spare cup with coffee and a pit of hot water as I think they could tell I was famished! But yes, so happy I finally have them! Xx
