    Hey Girls!

Now, apologies if this gets a bit graphic or ‘too much information’…

Basically I am planning a breast enlargement, however my breasts are still producing ‘milk’.

Just to clarify – I am NOT leaking milk, it is just something that is there. If I squeeze my nipples slightly then milk comes out. Not huge amounts that would equate to anything significant, but its definitely just there. Its generally white in colour, no odour, not particularly sticky, just like watery milk.

The strange thing is, my breasts did this PRE – PREGNANCY…. Like before we were even trying to get pregnant the first time around! At that point we did think ‘ooo am I pregnant’…??? but I was definitely not.

I even got it checked out at the hospital cos I’d never noticed it before but it never came to anything. I just got sent home.

I have had two children, both breastfed for 12 months each. (current ages 2 & 1).

I finished breastfeeding 6 months ago, and my breasts have completely settled in terms of changing size on a daily basis with the milk… they are now the same size every single day, consistently.

The thing is, when researching the whole subject (breast augmentation) out of 3 companies, only one has shown any concern over the milk production issue.

One company didn’t even bat an eyelid, the other was concerned about my family history of breast cancer but not so much about the post-breastfeeding milk production.

Anyhow, what I’m wondering is, if anyone else has had the same issues with lactation and if it has prevented or delayed their surgery?

Also, has anyone found a solution in actually drying up the milk once and for all?

I feel like I’m in limbo…. Ready to make a booking and would like to have surgery sometime in November, but feel like I just keep hitting obstacles which are just delaying things.

    Any help is greatly appreciated,

    Many thanks in advance! 🙂

    xx

    Hi Hun
I looked into this a little as I was still producing some milk, like you not leaking just when squeezed. I didn’t mention it to be honest and no one said anything, when I did a bit of online research it didn’t seem an issue for having a breast augmentation. Some peoples breast can just produce some milk, some for years after breast feeding some just because!!
I had my surgery 7 weeks ago, 5 months after stopping breast feeding (after feeding for 6 months) and since my surgery I’ve not had any milk that I’ve noticed at all!
I and my surgery booked for 6 months after finishing feeding but I when I had my consult I was given the OK by surgeon to bring my surgery forward as there was no more changing to be had.. They had gone lol!
I’m not sure about the family history of breast cancer though, they may be down to the surgeon, I would guess you would maybe have more checks anyway, as you have a family history, but you do Sign the form with the risks with one of them being it may be harder to detect breast cancer or detect it as early.

No MYA haven’t ‘refused’ but they’ve requested a family history risk assessment but that’s due to a history of breast cancer in my family.

Regarding the milk issue MYA only suggested I wait till I’d stopped breast feeding for 6 months. That was from the PC.

Surgeon never mentioned it. But then neither did I cos I didn’t think about it. I just figured I’d put everything in the paperwork initially and gone through any concerns at the first appointment wit PC.

    Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your info : it’s just a minefield so it seems.

I feel like it’s one step forward 3 steps back at the min.

I am (or was) really keen to book ASAP… But I soon figured that my health and doing things the ‘right’ way is far better than rushing in for the sake of getting it done.

I do still keep hope that all might work out ok still for November but if it doesn’t then it’s not meant to be.

I’m on a waiting list for the history check but that’s nothing to do wit MYA – I had to get referral from GP but not sure what happens next – it’s a waiting game…..

Did you find that you just dried up straight after surgery then? I assume you had inframammary incision? Or did you go through the nipple as apparently that way actually cuts your milk ducts??

I found any milk had gone after but there was only a tiny amount by the time of my surgery. I then didn’t touch my boobs or nipples for ages after my op not sure if that made a difference or not.
My incision is under my breast, although not planning on any more children I would like to have the option to breast feed in the future if more children did happen although damage to milk ducts is a risk with any Ba. I really don’t think any left over milk production would be an issue, it can just take a long time to completely dry up, as long as you’ve finished feeding so they settle.
Good luck with all the history bits and checks. Def worth making sure you’re all ok and what any further checks you may need in the future etc And how having a ba will affect it.
It most certainly is a minefield @dreamer
But when your all checked and sorted you’ll be even happier with your boobs knowing you’ve done everything right for you xx
