Calling any nurses (who are patients!!)

Hi girls, I have my op booked for the 15th August and have had a bit of conflicting advice as to how long to take off from work. I’m a nurse on a very busy hospital ward. I have to do a lot of manual handling, moving beds etc also some of our patients are very confused so there is always the risk of them lashing out. I’m having unders as well so am very cautious about how long to take off! Been advised 2 weeks but not sure if this is going to be long enough?! Any fellow nurses got any advice?! Xx

Hey I’m a nurse, and I’ve taken 2 weeks of annual leave with requested days either side to make it about 18 days off. Also they have moved me to outpatients while recovering but on the ward on my night shifts. But they have said if I’m struggling with the nights they will change me to outpatients for the time recovering. See if they can put you in a diff department or something as the changing beds and reading things will be difficult x

I’m a nurse, I have managed to have a full 4 weeks off! I think it depends on your surgeon on how much they recommend.. I had Dr Marcellino, as soon as I said I’m a nurse and will need to be lifting patients and moving heavy equipment etc he said 3-4 weeks.. So I have 3 weeks as sick leave and I booked an extra week as annual leave! At the end of the day we are lucky to get paid sick leave in our jobs, so I’ve just taken as much as I can! 🙂
