    Hi all!

I am having my op at the end of August. I have to travel quite a way down to London, and unfortunately my husband cant come with me as he needs to stay home to look after our children.

I am travelling down with my Mother in law which is great, and we’re staying down there for the first night. She isnt coming into the hospital with me, and i will be on my own both before and after the surgery. She will come back when im discharged to pick me up and take me to the hotel room.

Has anyone done this by themself? I am a little nervous, and i hear everyone say their boyfriend or husband or parents were with them all day on surgery day. If anyone else has done this on their own, or is planning to, id love to hear it for encouragment 🙂

    Thank you!

Hey, my op is on Wednesday and I’m going alone just having a friend collect me. I’m a little bit nervous about coming round from the anaesthetic without anyone I know :(.

Hi i had my op 4 months ago, I was on my own the whole time, my partner dropped me off then came and picked me up, it was fine honestly, the day flew by and there was constantly nurses and doctors coming in and out so it didn’t really feel like I was alone! Good luck xx

You’ll be completely fine, you’ll just want to sleep after the anaesthetic anyway. You’re checked on every couple of hours anyway so before you know it you’ll be picked up ready to go home ????

I’m basically doing it alone. I’m making my own way there and a family member will pick me up after. I’m not worried about it. I’ll be too out of it to care I think. 🙂

Not after my BA but i have had 2 other operations on the NHS that required a GA and in that setting visitors are not allowed in recovery rooms for infection control it’s obviously a much bigger setting so HCAs look after you, you will be fine, if you are feeling unwell they will look after you, the care assistants at the first trust in Preston were fabulous after my BA there very thorough and proffesional as were all the theatre staff and my surgeon on the day, good luck to you xxx

Hi Hun, I had no one with my on the day and the nurses were so lovely coming to check on me frequently, asking if I’d like anything etc. The hospital care from mya is honestly amazing. My chaperone got so lost in london she didnt get to me until 5 even though discharge time is at 11am, and they let me stay in the room were constantly offering tea and toast etc haha. After the GA i didnt want to really speak to anyone just sleep anyways! Best of luck with your op x

When u wake up ur in the recovery room with nurses so ur not alone they speak to u and ask if u need more pain relief then wheel u to ur room. U dont just wake up in ur room alone and u get checked constantly so please don’t worry!

@Gem I’ll be doing the same as you, My boyfriend will be dropping me off first thing at 9:30am and then taking himself round manchester for drinks with his mate later in the day and stopping in a hotel overnight. So I will be on my own both before and after the surgery, I’m staying in overnight. I don’t see the point in him waiting around for hours bored, waiting for me to go in for my surgery, then sat there for several hours after while I come round and rest. I’m sure we’ll be fine, lots of the girls on here have said staff are very helpful too xx

Hi girls, quick update had my op and I’m so pleased with the results (275 hp starting from an empty c cup) with Dr Andrea. Honestly I don’t know what I was worried about they put you to sleep on a comfy heated bed and it just feels like you’ve had too much wine!. When I woke up I was chatting away with my recovery nurse about working for the NHS (I’m a biomedical scientist in training). By the time I was actually lucid and didn’t feel drunk my friend was with me. Good luck girls

I did almost every thing on my own , as I made my own way to the hospital . After my op my daughter came and picked me up and we took a cab home . The nurses and doctors are fabulous and they take good care of you …. the time goes so quickly , you’ll forget that you don’t have your friends & family with you
