    Hi girls
I’ve seen posts before about piercings but I can’t find them! I had my pre op on Monday and the nurse told me I have to remove all piercings but I wondered if any girls have kept in a plastic tongue bar during surgery? I’ve kept in one before during an op but I know everyone’s different..

@corran2510 I’ve just spoke to receptionist regarding my admission and she mentioned this on the phone! I have a tongue bar BUT it’s locked on, I think the threading on it has meant it just won’t budge! But because I don’t want it out I’ve never chased it up! I had an operation (general anesthetic) back in 2009 and I couldn’t get it out then either! I explained this on the phone to receptionist and she said it shouldn’t be a problem as it’s no where near area he’s operating. So she said she’d make a note of it on my file. Worst case they’ll ask you to take it out, once you come round and feel better, pop it back in, it won’t heal in that time. If they don’t ask you to take it out then bonus! xx

@smileyvik thank you! Yeah last time I had an op I couldn’t for the life of me get it out!! I have since been able to take it out and I’d rather have my boobs than my piercing but I just can’t talk without it now I’m so used to it haha. I’ll give it a try anyway x

I had to take my tongue, nipple and tragus bars out for my op but the nurses put them back in for me (not my tongue bar) as soon as my surgeon was finished xo

Nope, tongue piercing has to come out. I tried to keep the plastic one in but you can’t, it’s in case they rip you tongue if they catch it when they put that breathing tube in!!

First thing I did when I came round was whack it back in. I only had it done 6 months before so worried it would close. It was hard to get back in but with a pop it went!!

I had to take my tongue bar out and my neck piercing. I forgot to put my neck piercing back in and it’s closed now but I’m not bothered. It doesn’t matter where on the body it is they say the metal can interfere with the machines.. And like trace said tongue bar was a no no as breathing tube xxx

Thanks for the replies. I don’t mind if it closes up I’d rather not have that and have my boobs lol. On my last op they said they’d just have to be extra careful but if I can’t get away with it its not a biggie 🙂

You’re ok with plastic, it’s metal jewellery that’s the problem x
