Hey! So my op is booked for 8th Aug, mentioned to my employer at the time of first consultation that I may need time off during 6 weeks school holidays (easier for op as don’t have to rely on anyone to do school run whilst recovering) but wasn’t sure exactly when.. was given the 8th as a date which I agreed to for surgery, went back into work this week & told manager, now it looks like there are already people that are off that week (wasn’t when I checked to begin with!) so she is refusing to let me have that time off & the net available holiday at work is October which doesn’t fit in with the kids holidays!! What can I do?! I’m not up for changing my op date again! Debating calling in sick but as they already know the op date is the 8th Aug they will know why I’m off sick!! Ahhhhhh helppp.

Hi @amyhollandx. What if you give them a sick note from your GP which says you are not fit for work? They can’t make you if you have one of those although they’d probably be a bit pissed of haha x

I don’t know if it’s the same as my work but if you have a planned operation they have to honour that off for you can you not make up its for medical reasons you’re getting it done lol? Or do they know it’s just for bigger boobs haha?xx

I was thinking about sick note from gp but as you said, they would be pissed because they already know I’m booked for that date haha! Me & my big mouth aye!
I have offered to take it unpaid but she said there’s 2 people off that week already, only 2 aloud at one time.. urghhhh! & yep, they know it’s just for bigger boobs because I was honest from the start.. gutted lol! Think it’s going to have to be a sick note & dread going back to an awful atmosphere haha! X

Where do you work? I was struggling to get the second week off but your employers should do everything they can to help you have this time off, I was given a week and then rang in the second week and told them I wasn’t fit to go back so they then put me in for a second weeks annual leave as my work policy states that cosmetic surgery has to be taken with annual leave. I’d either lay it on thick and say it’s affecting your mental health and it’s sormthing you really feel you need done soon or go to the doctors and get signed off with stress. I was so stressed out about getting time off because at first work were quite difficult for me but once I explained how important it was to me and my health to go ahead with this procedure they soon helped me out xxx

Oh believe me Iv tried the whole mental health route with them, they know I suffer with mental health anyway but that didn’t seem to make any difference! As far as their concerned there are 2 people off already & that’s all that can be off at one time ahhhhhh.. I work in a gp surgery! X

Hey, do you have a HR department or union rep etc that you can go to and ask about the policy for cosmetic surgery if it’s classed as sick, someone at my work has had liposuction done 3 times now for cosmetic reasons and takes the whole 6weeks off as sick leave. I don’t want to tell work so I’ll be using annual leave for mine aha, but it might be worth asking the question! Hope you get it sorted and good luck with your op!

Some people will think you just want bigger boobs but there’s much more to wanting a surgery like this then just that!
