10 CRAZY FACTS ABOUT NIPPLES YOU SIMPLY NEED TO KNOW! 0

Friday 13th January, 2017 | Lifestyle |

Regardless of the size of our breasts we all have one thing in common: nipples. But what do we really know about them?

1. Your nipples are sisters not twins

Just like your boobs, your nipples are never 100% symmetrical. Unless there is a sudden dramatic change in the size of your nipples, everything is normal.

2. Nipples can change colour

We are not talking the entire colour of the rainbow but during pregnancy or even when using some forms of birth control, nipples can become darker.

3. Almost everyone was hair on or around their nipples

Whether you like it or not, its there; male or female.

4. Social media hate nipples

Well not all nipples. Men’s nipples are apparently fine while female nipples are the ones that seem to cause offense. (You’ve probably noticed that we have to cover the nipples on our social media before and after photos. So why are Facebook and Instagram afraid of female nipples??? #FreeTheNipple we say!

5. Everyone has nipples

This is because of how the fetus develops in the womb. Nipples show up even before sex organs do (like vaginas, ovaries, testicles, and penises) do.

6. Some people have three nipples

This is not uncommon! Extra nipples are called supernumerary nipples and they typically develop along two “milk lines” that run from your armpit through your normal nipples and down your sides to the groin. Those milk lines should normally disappear in the womb, but for some people they don’t.

7. Harry Styles has four

(Not massively relevant but about nipples nevertheless).

8. Your nipples and your earlobes are spaced apart exactly the same

Let’s see how long it takes you to check in the mirror?

9. Some people are born with no nipples

The condition is known as “athelia” and there are only about 7,000 diagnosed cases worldwide.

10. There are 4 basic types of nipples

Standard nipples stick out a few millimeters from the areola and come out more when aroused. Flat nipples protrude only from temperature changes or when stimulated. Puffy nipples have a raised areola, and the last type is inverted nipples, which are turned inward. FYI – inverted nipples can be fixed with surgery!
