Nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty or more commonly known as a nose job, is one of the most impactful cosmetic procedures available. The confidence it brings can be wonderfully life-changing. This can include refining the bridge, tip or the overall profile; it can also relieve breathing difficulties caused by injury.
To put it simply, this refers to any procedure that alters the look of your nose; this could include the size, length or shape.
Many of our patients are self-conscious about the size and shape of your nose, especially as it is the most central feature on the face. Inherited characteristics that may be disproportionate to the overall shape of your face - as a female you may have inherited your "Father's nose" or a previous accident may have changed the shape of your nose leaving unsightly bumps or flattened areas.
There are several forms of rhinoplasty to deal with a host of common problems:
This form of rhinoplasty can help solve issues including the removal of bumps and humps, correcting a bridge or tip that is too wide, reshaping noses that appear disproportionately large on the face and correcting "hooked" noses.
An augmented rhinoplasty refers to any procedure which involves building the nose or giving it extra bulk. This may be suitable for patients who wish to correct a flat bridge.
Any procedure which involves manipulation of the septum is known as a septo-rhinoplasty. This may be suitable for patients with a deviated septum or who are looking to correct a crooked or wonky nose.
Rhino-tip procedures deal with large, bulbous or misshapen nose tips. This may also be suitable for patients wishing to correct or shorten a droopy tip.
An alar base reduction refers to procedures that include the reshaping of large or flaring nostrils.
As a general guide most procedures are performed under general anaesthetic, take approximately 2 hours to complete and usually require a one night stay in hospital. Rhinoplasty scarring varies depending on the type of procedure. During a closed reduction nose reshaping the incisions occur on the inside of the nose and therefore there are no visible scars - other types of nose reshaping procedures have some minimal scarring.
Patients undergoing nose reshaping surgery will need between 7 and 14 days off work to recover, and can also expect some bruising during this period. Any obvious swelling should subside within a month, and will continue to improve over a 12 month period.
