Liposuction after pregnancy

Can you get liposuction after pregnancy?

Congratulations on your new addition to the family!

We're so excited for you and wish you a happy and healthy recovery after giving birth.

While it's a time for relaxation and celebration, pregnancy and childbirth take a serious toll on a woman's body, changing the way it looks and holds onto fat.

Our aim here at MYA is to empower women and help them feel proud of the skin they're in - but that's easier said than done for some people.

Many women choose to undergo cosmetic surgery to help them regain their pre-pregnancy body and confidence.

If you're struggling with your body image after having a baby, here's how we can help.

What you need to know about liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes stubborn areas of fat from the body that are hard to lose with just diet and exercise.

From the ankles to the chin, our experienced surgeons perform liposuction to remove excess fat after pregnancy for those who struggle with their confidence.

Benefits of removing excess fat with liposuction

Pregnancy and giving birth can hugely affect the way a woman's body looks, often having a knock-on effect on their confidence and overall quality of life.

Weight gain is a natural part of pregnancy and is nothing to be worried about. While a change in diet and exercise routine can reduce this post-birth, some women find they have stubborn areas of fat that just won't budge.

If you're experiencing this, liposuction after pregnancy can help contour these areas, breaking down the fat cells for a smoother look and shape.

Overall, having liposuction post-pregnancy can increase confidence and clothing comfort, prevent chafing in problem areas, and create a more proportionate figure.

What about the loose skin?

After giving birth, most women experience loose excess skin as well as additional belly fat.

A tummy tuck procedure removes excess skin from the abdomen to create a more toned appearance. If the abdominal muscles are weakened post-pregnancy, these can be tightened, too - however, this depends on your surgeon and your body.

This procedure can also improve the appearance of scarring and overhang that often come with having a C-section.

The full transformation

Here at MYA Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a 'Mummy Makeover' - a procedure that combines multiple procedures to perfect areas of the body that mums sometimes struggle with.

Mummy makeovers usually include breast surgery, liposuction, tummy tuck, and labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation (for those who have had a vaginal delivery).

The cosmetic surgery procedures chosen depend on your physical requirements and which areas you want to target - this can be discussed during your consultations.

Recovering from liposuction after pregnancy

Following the procedure, it's normal for patients to experience bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the affected areas. This is completely normal, but pain relief will be prescribed to ease it and this usually subsides 7-21 days after the surgery.

Compression garments will be provided to aid healing and reduce excess swelling. These should be worn 24/7 for up to 4-6 weeks post-op.

If you have any questions during your recovery, don't hesitate to call your local MYA clinical hub. You will also have a post-op assessment with a nurse and/or surgeon to monitor healing and answer any of your questions a few weeks after you have had the surgery.

When should I get a tummy tuck or liposuction after pregnancy?

If you've recently had a baby and are considering cosmetic surgery procedures like liposuction, we advise waiting at least 6 months to 1 year, to allow the skin and muscles to recover properly.

It's also worth thinking about if you want more children before undergoing cosmetic procedures.

If you were to have liposuction and then have another baby, it could bring back the concerns you previously paid to remove.

It's also worth bearing in mind that after all cosmetic surgery procedures, you are advised not to lift heavy items or take part in strenuous exercises in the initial recovery stage, as this could affect the final result.

So, if you're running around in the park and picking up your child when they're having a tantrum (and let's be real, toddlers are heavy!), it's a good idea to wait until they're all walking and at school so you can have some time to rest properly after your procedure.
