British men are spending £1.5 billion a year on their beauty regime, according to a new study.

A survey by Thistle Hotels found that men in the UK now spend three times more on their appearance than they did five years ago, reports the Sun.

One million men admit to visiting a spa at least once a year, claiming facials and waxing are the preferred treatments.

A spokesman for the hotel chain commented: "UK men are seen as macho, but are increasingly at ease with maintaining their appearance.

The research follows a report by the Daily Mail that there has been a 30 per cent increase in the number of men requesting Botox or other anti-ageing procedures.

Famous males who have allegedly undergone the treatment include Simon Cowell and Cliff Richard, reports the newspaper. Savina O’Neill from London Plastic Surgery Associates suggested that more and more men are appreciating "a little external help".ADNFCR-1234-ID-18370009-ADNFCR
