A slender and flat stomach is highly desired by both men and women. It boosts confidence and creates a tighter and more youthful looking abdomen.
There can be many reasons why you would wish to undergo abdominoplasty surgery – more commonly referred to as a “tummy tuck;” either weight loss, aging or multiple pregnancies can all contribute to the unwanted excess skin and damaged muscles.
A complex tummy tuck procedure can take up to 3 hours with 1 or 2-night stay in hospital. The 2-night stay is when the navel is removed and repositioned. One incision is made across the lower abdomen and another is made around the tummy button. The muscles are pulled tighter and stitched into place. After excess fat and skin are removed, a new tummy button is created.
Your surgeon may even suggest a mini-tummy tuck for those who have a small amount of excess skin to the lower area of the abdomen. With mini tummy tuck, muscle repair is not necessary. An advantage of this is that the navel will not need to be repositioned and the incision across the lower abdomen is usually reduced in size.
All in all I’ve had a great experience with MYA
Those who undergo tummy tucks are required to rest for 7-14 days. Your mobility will be restricted for the first few days and the procedure is sometimes described as similar to a c-section. You will be supplied a compression garment which will assist with healing and help reduce swelling and bruising. Dissolvable stitches are commonly used so this area will need to be kept clean and dry during your initial recovery. Returning to physical activities will usually be 6 weeks following your surgeon consultation it is strongly advised that you start at a beginner level.
Our abdominoplasty surgeons are some of the best in the world with MYA’s before and after images that prove the dramatic results that can be achieved with tummy tuck surgery. For more information on pricing for this procedure, click here.
Before & Afters
How big will the scar be?
Scaring can vary in length given the amount of skin and tissue that needs to be removed but placement is commonly the lower stomach above the pubic bone from hip to hip.
Does my belly button get moved?
Yes, due to your skin being pulled tight to leave you with a youthful stomach your belly button placement will need to be moved higher, you will have a small scar around your belly button which can fade in time.
Will the surgeon use drains?
Yes it is common for drains to be used to get rid of excess fluid following surgery they may be removed during surgery or the following morning in hospital, this may be uncomfortable but is very quick and helps to reduce swelling.
What will I need to wear following tummy tuck surgery?
You will be supplied with a support garment which will help to control swelling and bruising whist protecting the area and dressings. You will wear this garment for up to 6weeks following surgery. Loose dark clothing is advisable for the first week following surgery.
How will my mobility be affected after tummy tuck surgery?
For the first few days following tummy tuck surgery you may find it difficult to stand up straight, you will be encouraged to try during the first week even though your stomach will feel tight. Walking even if just around the house in the first weeks will help blood flow and thus encouraging healing, however, it is not advisable to overdo it as this can cause a buildup of fluid which may require further intervention and delay healing.
Many of us spend hours in the gym in pursuit of a taut, flat stomach to fight the effects of weight loss. Aging and pregnancy can often cause excess skin and damaged muscles. Abdominoplasty surgery – commonly referred to as a tummy tuck – can create a tighter, thinner abdomen with dramatic results.
Tummy tuck surgery can take between 1.5 – 3 hours. Incisions are made around the lower abdomen and the tummy button, where muscles are then pulled tighter and stitched into place. A new tummy button is created after the removal of excess fat and skin. Those with a small amount of excess skin may be suitable for a mini tummy tuck, with no need for muscle repair or repositioning of the naval.
