TUMMY TUCK SURGERY

A tummy tuck, like liposuction, is not a weight loss procedure but is designed to treat a problem area that cannot be changed through diet and exercise. Results from this procedure can be life changing. Removing excess skin may mean clothes will fit better, you will feel a lot more comfortable and may have the confidence to do things you may have previously shied away from or wear certain styles of clothes you may have previously avoided.

A SIMPLE & SAFE PROCEDURE

There are two types of surgery, a mini and a full tummy tuck. Both are performed under a general anaesthetic. A mini tummy tuck is less complex than a full tummy tuck and is usually most suited to patients who have loose skin on the lower half of the abdomen. An advantage of this is that the navel will not need to be repositioned. An incision is made across the lower abdomen, where excess fat and loose skin are removed. A full tummy tuck is a more complex procedure where the navel will have to be removed and repositioned. One incision is made across the lower abdomen and another is made around the tummy button. The muscles are pulled tighter and stitched in place. After excess fat and skin are removed a new tummy button is created. Tummy tuck surgery can take up to 3 hours, depending on which type of surgery is needed. If you're planning to become pregnant in the near future it may be best to wait until after to have this procedure.

QUICK RECOVERY

An overnight hospital stay is usual, though some may need a couple of days, followed by a few weeks rest. The area will be swollen and bruised and compression garment will need to be worn for six weeks post surgery to assist with the healing process. You will not be able to exercise for at least a few weeks.
