Plastic Surgery Following Weight Loss

Plastic surgery has become a popular choice for those who have embarked on weight loss. Losing a large amount of weight can leave excess loose skin on areas such as the abdomen, arms, and thighs, making these patients ideal candidates for body contouring procedures like a Tummy Tuck.

Preparing for surgery after weight loss

You’ve done it! You’ve finally lost the weight you’ve been working hard to loose and now you are left with excess skin or tissue, which requires removing to allow you to enjoy your new found, weight loss confidence. But before you jump straight into it, there are a few things you need to know…

  • Patients must be within a stone of their ideal weight at surgeon consultation.

  • Patients must maintain a stable weight  6-12 months prior to surgery, to prove this goal weight is sustainable.

Extreme weight fluctuation post-surgery can jeopardise results. It would be such a shame to spend the money and the time healing for the results of the procedure to be effected. If you are considering a procedure following weight loss, make sure that you are happy with your current weight and that it is maintainable. If you plan on losing more weight, we would heavily advise not to move forward with surgery.

Plastic surgery and weight loss injections

With the increasing popularity of weight loss injections, we have seen a rise in patients enquiring about procedures such as Abdominoplasty, Breast Uplifts etc. For patients using weight loss injections such as Mounjaro and Ozempic it’s important to follow the below guidelines to ensure the best possible results if your procedure.

We require you to stop the injections 4 weeks prior to surgery and to remain off the injections until 4 weeks post op, but bare in mind the above advice, that further weight loss can affect your final result.

Post weight loss surgery – CASE STUDIES

Ashley:

“Back in 2020, I had lost around 6 stone and have worked hard to maintain that ever since. Due to the significant amount of weight I lost, I was left with a lot of excess skin and this made me feel very self-conscious on how I looked. This made me feel like I was always still bigger than I actually was. I wouldn't have my shirt of in front of others, even on holiday. I always had the view in mind that the Tummy Tuck surgery would be needed for me to fully feel happy with my body and 100% see the progress actually made….

Having the Tummy Tuck was the best thing I have ever done in my life! The surgery went amazingly and I'm ecstatic with the results. Being only 6 weeks post op at the time of writing this, I can already tell the confidence has high rocketed in myself!”

Chloe:

“I  recently lost around 6 stone over time and was left with stubborn loose skin which I couldn’t lose through diet and exercise, even though I knew this I would continue to diet and was not happy with myself. Losing weight is one of the hardest things you can do in my opinion, after losing 6 stone and being left unhappy with the way you look after putting in so much effort is very disheartening….

I decided to bite the bullet and get a tummy tuck to remove the area of excess skin that I struggled with and could not be happier. I feel like I am more confident in every single way. Before having my procedure the loose skin around my stomach affected my mood, the way I saw myself, my confidence and the way I dressed. Now I can wear whatever I want and put myself out there more than I did before. “
