With the increasing popularity of weight loss injections and significant weight loss journeys, many patients are noticing changes such as loose skin, volume loss and altered body contours. While achieving weight loss goals is a huge milestone, it’s natural for many to want to seek ways to restore these areas following this. Which is why we have seen an increasing number of patients having procedures such as Tummy Tucks, Breast Uplifts, Lower face and Neck lifts etc.
Currently using weight loss injections and looking to have surgery?
For patients actively still using weight loss injections such as Mounjaro, Ozempic or Wegovy it’s important to follow the below guidelines to ensure the best possible results.
We require you to stop the injections 4 weeks prior to surgery and to remain off the injections until 4 weeks post op, but bear in mind that further weight loss can affect your final result.
Prior to booking your consultation following weight loss injections, there are a few things you need to know;
- Patients must be within a stone of their ideal weight at surgeon consultation.
- Patients must maintain a stable weight 6-12 months prior to surgery, to prove this goal weight is sustainable.
Extreme weight fluctuation post-surgery can jeopardise results. It would be such a shame to spend the money and the time healing for the results of the procedure to be affected. If you are considering a procedure following weight loss, make sure that you are happy with your current weight and that it is maintainable. If you plan on losing more weight, we would heavily advise not to move forward with surgery.

While weight loss can be life changing many people explain that following the dramatic weight loss they feel like they loose volume in their face, this volume would typically help maintain smooth contours and skin elasticity. Feeling they are left with more prominent wrinkles/fine lines and sagging skin along the jaw and neckline resulting in facial aging. You may have heard it referred to as “Ozempic face” or “Skinny Jab sag” as the results of rapid and significant weight reduction that comes with weight loss injections such as Ozempic and Mounjaro.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Weight loss of any kind especially weight loss that can be quick and dramatic following the use of weight loss injections can result in loose skin or an overhang of tissue around the stomach area. The only way to remove this is with surgery called an Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or in the more extreme cases Fleur De Lis where the surgeon makes both a vertical and horizontal incision allowing for larger amounts of skin and fat to be removed.

As breasts are largely made up of fatty issue, a dramatic drop in weight can often result in loss of volume, loose skin and sagging.
