What is Gynaecomastia surgery?
During puberty, most teenage boys will develop fatty tissue around the chest or breast area. This usually subsides naturally within a year or so but it can remain with some men for the rest of their adult lives. The official term ‘gynaecomastia’ is widely used by doctors and medical professionals, but the condition is also commonly referred to as man boobs. The severity of the condition varies with each individual.
Male breast reduction surgery is a procedure offered here at MYA that reduces the appearance of 'man boobs' for a firmer, more masculine look. Excess skin and breast tissue are removed on one or both breasts, depending on the physical requirements of the patient and the surgeon's recommendations.
How much does a male breast reduction cost?
Here at MYA, male breast reduction costs upwards of £5,995. This cost can change depending on your physical requirements, the look you want to achieve and the advice given by the surgeon.

Benefits of male breast reduction surgery
Removing excess breast tissue and sagging skin around the breast area has a range of benefits, including:
Increased self-confidence
Many men struggle with low self-esteem because of the way their chest looks and, as a result, avoid taking their tops off - affecting social and romantic relationships.
Cosmetic surgery has the ability to increase self-confidence and improve overall quality of life.
No restrictions on what to wear
Wearing tighter-fitting clothing can be an issue with excess breast tissue. It sticks out and can often cause sweating and irritation.
Gynaecomastia surgery removes excess breast tissue to create a flatter surface, giving men the confidence to wear a wide range of tops, t-shirts and shirts without feeling self-conscious about any excess skin and tissue.
Excess glandular tissue can also be removed to flatten the nipples and stop them from protruding.
Increased comfort
Excess fatty tissue on the breasts can cause chaffing, rashes and extreme sweating both in day-to-day and when exercising.
Male chest reduction surgery removes excess glandular tissue, reducing the friction between the skin and clothing and ensuring maximum comfort.
Procedure Overview
Day of Surgery
Male breast reduction is carried out through a small incision to break up the fat beneath the skin. The fat is then removed by a syringe or vacuum pump. Depending on the extent of the fatty tissue, the surgeon may want to remove any excess tissue which can be done at the same time as liposuction.
Anaesthesia
Liposuction on male breasts is performed under general anaesthetic (GA). This gives you a state of controlled unconsciousness (being asleep) to prevent pain or sensation.
Surgery
The procedure usually takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours to perform, leaving amazing results with minimal scarring.
Gynaecomastia recovery
Most patients require a few days off work to recover from gynecomastia surgery and patients should not exercise for at least 6 weeks post-op. A compression garment will also be required to be worn during the recovery period to aid healing, this garment can easily go unnoticed under clothing.
Once signed off by a MYA nurse or surgeon, patients can go back to their normal activities, but this should be done with caution. For example, patients are advised to do light exercise to encourage blood flow, but be careful with weight training and high-impact sports until back to past fitness levels.
*There is no guarantee of specific outcomes so individual results and experiences can vary from person to person.
