Right so I’m due to have my OP on the 17th! I just had a call from my PC saying that I can’t have my op because I’ve been seeing a counsellor and I’ve had depression in the past. I went all over this in ky consultation provided a doctors letter and a letter from my counsellor stating why I was seeing her and that I’m stable to have surgery. I was seeing her because I was having trouble with my youngest son who may have autism also I went through a stage of anxiety because my eldest at son who is 16 was nearly killed twice by a gang with a knife we wasn’t save in our home and was awaiting a management transfer so forgive me if I had low mood and anxiety. So now they are saying I have to wait 6 months before I can have surgery I’m absolutely fuming!

Omg I bet you are! Who was it that said you have to wait 5 months? Was that your PC or surgeon? The amount of girls getting turned away on the week leading up to their op lately is crazy!xx

The head nurse has made the decision I am fuming this is so unfair! Treating me like I’m not all there in the head or something I saw the nurse only last week she read both letters and said that’s fine! And now 7 days before my op you wanna tell me no. currently waiting to speak to the nurse who made the decision. I’m so angry ??

Hey Hun,@enniroc Im really sorry to hear this, I can completely understand why your fuming, if you have provided a medical note from GP and counsellor stating your fit for surgery surely that should be good enough, ask to speak to your surgeon about it Hun xxx

Is it the surgeon who has the final say @tracy? Waiting for the nurse to call me who made this decision. i want this sorted or I’m getting my money back and going elsewhere. So unfair!

I’m not sure Hun but I would definitely be requesting to speak to him, at the end of the day he’s the one doing the surgery, I just don’t understand why they would do this when you have provided confirmation your fit to have it done, it’s not fair on you at all, this is stressful enough without the added pressure, keep us updated Hun, really hope they sort it out for you x x x

Just spoke to the nurse that I had my pre op with last week and all she could say was its the policy not to so surgery on someone who is seeing a councellor even tho I explained the only reason why I was speaking to the councellor in the first place was to do with my youngest child! I’ve for letters like they requested staying I’m stable for surgery so why the hell now have they changed there mind. Is like she was on auto pilot and not listening to what I had to say. Why didn’t they tell me this on my first consultation? I’ve asked to speak to my surgeon and someone higher up because this is just ludicrous. I am absolutely disgusted with how I’ve been treated. X

omg this is awful! just one week before your surgery?! How can they do this to you after you have had the go ahead from both your GP and your counsellor?? I’ve had depression previously years ago and have my operation booked in for 16th, next Wednesday! I am hoping I do not get a call in the next few days as I will be absolutely livid. Take this higher Corinne. There is no way the surgeon can turn you down and have the final say as he is only doing the surgery! If your nurse and PC was aware of this at the consultation and nothing further was said then they have no valid point!

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this! I’ve seen your recent posts and how much you’ve wanted this. I’ve had a good experience with MYA but I cannot understand why you wouldn’t have had this dealt with at an earlier date!

I’m also a ASD mum and know it’s difficult
to deal and come to terms with but I can’t say it would have ever effected my want or ability for gaining something like a BA. Most of us need help with learning how to juggle a hectic condition like ASD but that had no effect on mental state in my opinion.

I also had the nurse question my Previous need for anti depressants following my brother passing away but she said that’s understandable and didn’t mention it again thankfully.

I hope things work out for you very soon!!

Yeah I was also asked by the nurse at my consultation had I ever taken anti-depressants and I said year when I was 18. She wrote it down and then after several other questions and near the end of the consultation she asked me again if I had been on them recently other than when I was 18?! I am worried sick now I am going to get a call!!! Yikes best keep my phone on loud every day now! This last week will be awful

Last week my doctors letters were fine and then all if a sudden today they are not! I’m absolutely livid I’ve been made to feel like I’m not capable of making a big decision. I’ve cancelled my op now and asked for my money back im so angry and even more gutted I’ve wanted this for so long and I can’t believe how close I was for it to just be taken away. I know of a girl that this exact thing happened to! Her op was cancelled two days before she was due to have it (at the beginning of December I think it was). In the end she was given a full refund from MYA and has now had her op with another company a couple of weeks ago. It can still go ahead hun, it’s frustrating I know, but try to stay calm, get your money back and try going elsewhere! Unless you have your heart 100% set on the surgeon you had chosen xx

wow so disappointed in MYA I thought they was a better company than this! its stories like this that make you reconsider and look elsewhere if they can be so judgemental and not understanding. I have a brother who has ADHD and Autism and I know how hard it can be, it just gets me so angry when people dont understand what its like! So sorry @Corinne really bad what they have done to you, all the best of luck and keep us updated

Thanks @AMY and @SAVANNAH your right it is so bad what they have done its discrimination against people who suffer from anxiety I don’t get why though don’t understand I explained all of this to them and they said it was fine. It’s so bad how they can just cancel and honestly when I spoke to the nurses it was like talking to a brick wall they didn’t give a shit about what I was saying it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever because the woman I was see was just helping me to cope with my sons needs and some traumatic live events that I was going through. They had the cheek to say to me that because I had anxiety before that it could happen again if something was to go wrong with my surgery and then I could sue them for operating on me. What a load of crap MYA have really gone down in my opinions now and I would never recommend them. Sorry for the SA girls but as you can imaging I’m just so upset X

I totally understand cos I would be fuming aswell! I don’t get why they have taken this long to cancel just before your surgery, all that build up feeling excited knowing you was almost there must be such a devastating feeling to be told it’s not going through! They could of atleast let you no from the moment you saw the nurse in the beginning that way you wouldn’t of felt as worst as you do now šŸ™

terrible! Good luck with your new journey tho Hun as heartbreaking as it is for you I’m sure you will get this sorted x

The decision to postpone a Patientā€™s surgery is always with the Patientā€™s best interests and welfare at the forefront. MYA works in line with policy and guidance as provided by the DOH and national minimum clinical standards. This is a reply for the MYA mod. I have been treating unfairly because as I’ve stated numerous times I only had anxiety due to a traimatic life event which o didn’t seek counselling for. It was my son that needed to see a psychologist sue to ASD and she just help me through a low point. That shouldnt of had an effect in my opinion on my surgery.
They should of told me there policy right at the beginning I was only told that I would need to provide letters stating that o was stable which I provided to be told all was fine went to see my surgeon and my pre op where the nurse read both letters and said it was fine! Only to be told a week later that it in fact wasn’t fine. I have Been treated unfairly. I’ve wanted a BA for years and was so excited I’m absolutely Gutted. MYA has made me very upset. I had everything arranged for my recovery my partner booked a week off work which can’t be reversed we will lose a weeks wages as he is self employed. It’s all been very stressful

I am so annoyed to read this from someone else! I payed my full amount 29th Feb and has my op booked for 2 weeks! The night before I was going to mya for my nurse appointment they called saying it’s all been cancelled because I took antidepressants in December which my doctor had written a note to state they where to help with OCD not depression! I done everything mya asked and now I have waited for my money since 4th March! Still no money!!!! I am fuming! They only want your money! Can’t belive I payed all that money thinking I was actually having my op in few weeks. They told me I’d have the money in 14 days! It’s been almost a month! Useless the lot of them! Feel so sorry for anyone who’s been in this situation!!!

MYA are useless Hun and to be honest I’m glad not going with them any more as I’ve heard some awful stuff about them and there aftercare. The way they deal with things is ridiculous. They are so unprofessional they even txd me to remind me that I had my surgery and post op appointment and then txd again when I didn’t turn up saying sorry you couldn’t make it? Wtf you cancelled my op you dozy idiots. Chase that money up Hun I only paid my deposit which was 500 but I had that make within 2 days they are stalling Hun it don’t take that long to get a refund sorted. Sorting for ranting Hun but you have reminded me how angry I still am with then lol. On a positive note there’s other places that will do your op. It’s just MYA that discriminate against depression!
