Hi guys, I’m booked for a BA for next Saturday in Preston, and can’t wait to wake up with new boobies! But, I am absolutely and completely terrified of needles and anesthetic. I’ve never had a canula put in me, or injected anesthetic and every time I think about it sends my heart racing and I’ve got fear-tears just typing this! I’ve never managed to have a jab or witnessed someone else having one without fainting, so I know I’m going to cry and make a fuss and feel like a giant burden to the staff and my friend who’s taking me. I know it’s an irrational phobia, and logically I’m in great hands and it’s nothing to really be scared of, so I want to tackle it as best I can.

I just wondered if anyone else is as bad as me and what you did to help calm yourself? Can the staff do anything for you? Like give you something to calm you down or anything? Any help would be so appreciated, I was hoping I’d be okay, but every day it creeps closer, instead of being excited, my anxiety takes over and it’s building it up to be more scary than it really is! x

You don’t even feel it honestly, you’ll have someone on the other side of you talking to you to take your mind off it while he gets on with it. It’s like a cat scratch & as soon as he put the liquid into your hand you’ll feel a funny feeling up your arm then start to feel a bit dazed. You’ll be fine honestly; it doesn’t hurt to take out xxx

if you’re scared they can give you numbing cream on your skin so you don’t feel the needle going in, the needle itself will feed in to the canular which they’ll put your anesthetic in, they’ll get you to count back from 10, i didn’t get past 7, it knocks you out very quick but it just feels like you’re falling in to a very peaceful sleep, there’s no panic or change to your body when they do it, it’s literally like you’re suddenly super tired and doze off xx

Ahh Harriet the thought of being able to feel the liquid going up my arm gives me the shivers! Do they put the canula in your hand or the elbow crease bit? I’m glad it didn’t hurt you to take it out though, that makes me feel a bit better about it. Thanks Francesca, I guess once you get over the needle part you’re out so quickly you don’t have much time to feel panicky! I think I’m just going to have to pretend it’s not happening until the very last second, then it’ll be too late to panic! Hopefully the anesthetist has some tricks up their sleeve to make me not even realise they’re doing it! xx

Jenni- I am exactly the same as you!! I’m having my op on the 28th may- I’ve never been in hospital before and I’m so terrified. Like you said, I don’t want to feel like I am being a big drama queen and making a fuss over nothing, but I can’t help but feel so scared. I have seen a couple of other similar posts on here, and all the girls said they were fine in the end. The staff will be used to dealing with all types of things, so they will take the time to comfort you. I’m having my op at Preston and I have heard amazing things about the staff there. One girl said that the nurse was telling her to fall asleep imagining Ryan Gosling running towards her on the beach- I feel like that thought would definitely help me feel calmer hahaa. Added you xx

I can’t explain it but it felt fine, anyway after he’s given you that you’ll start to feel a bit sleepy or even drunk haha. Wish mine was happening again, really enjoyed the experience. Just enjoy it & think of the outcome 🙂 xxxxxx

I’m more nervous about the needle than the actual op! For the simple reason I’ve never had it done, I’m sure we will be fine us girls are strong! 5days til op for me! X

Aaha I LOVE Ryan Gosling so maybe I’ll take that advice! I’ll pretend he’s holding my hand! I’m up at Preston just 2 days before you, kinda a shame we’re not the same date because it’d be nice to have drama queen solidarity haha! At least I can let you know how it is and what the staff are like about it etc. I’ve accepted you!

Aw Harriet I’m so glad you enjoyed it; I’ve read a few people saying that, and even saying they’re jealous of girls having it and wishing they could do the day again! Sounds mental to me haha, but I think I’m going to try and train myself to think of it as an exciting day, rather than a scary one. You’ve really helped put my mind at ease, thank you so much, seriously xx

Me too Rachel! Successfully avoided ever having blood taken etc so I think part of it is just the novelty of it all! Seen so many BAs on tv that the actual procedure doesn’t scare me anymore; I’m completely sensitized to that part of it. I think a massive part of it is just the fear of the unknown! x

Honestly feels like you’ve had a really good nap when you wake up, I wanted to go shopping haha. Good luck anyway, you’ll be fine xxxxx
