Hi ladies! bit of an odd one but I’ve only managed to get a week off work for my op (uplift & implants), and this evening it dawned on me that I’m going to have to get the tube at rush hour to and from work (unlikely to get a seat, have to use the high up hand holds, people bashing into etc.) which is something I completely didn’t think about until now! I have my 1 week follow up on my first day back to work too so not looking forward to undergoing it all in one day and worried I’ll be exhausted by it all. Where my implants are going to be unders and more painful healing, as well as having an uplift, should I see if I can take some more time off work? How did you deal with public transport post surgery? Thank you in advance, Fern x

    Hey bab,

I had unders and went back to work a day early which was on day 7.

On day 6 I had to go to London from Brighton and get the tubes, it wasn’t at rush hour but I felt pretty much back to normal on these days.

I work in an office and sit at a desk all day so I knew I wouldn’t be too bad.

I wouldn’t aim for the high handle bars if it is rush hour but maybe the verticle poles.

Also, I went out Friday night which was day 8 and it was crowed and my boobs were bruised and sensitive still but I shielded them and protected them with my life but I was worried being in a crowed place that I tried to find as much space at the event as possible

Hope this helps a bit, I am a bit of a tough cookie and can’t take pain and I do heal well like I’m never ill so all depends on you aswell x

I’m having the same questions as you, I have to get the central line everyday and have never got a seat or been able to stand near the doors I’m going back to work 6 days after my op and don’t know how I’m going to do it. People always barge and push me and I’m not tall to reach the handles without really stretching my arm x

    Hi Fern
I had overs which are a quicker recovery and less painful because there is no damage to the muscle. There is no way I could have got on a rush hour train and held the upper handles. You have to give your body adequate time to heal from a big operation. You are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to get back to work a week after having unders. If it is possible then try and take an extra week of, you will be so glad you did this.
Healing properly is so important and the first few weeks are crucial, I would try and get extra time off and take the pressure off yourself, make it easier, less stress.
To the girls that managed to go back to work after a week and use rush hour tube I literally don’t know how you did it, you must be very strong girlies 🙂
Everyone heals differently and has a different threshold of pain, good luck with your upcoming op Fern

Could u not go to your Dr and get signed off for an extra week? I wouldn’t want to risk getting barged in the boob or ask you employer if u can come in later so that u can miss the rush and risk xx

Hi fern, i had my operation on monday so im now 4 days post op following overs and an uplift..I’ve only managed to get 9 days off work and already im sort of considering taking longer off, its not just the pain its the tiredness, drowzyness and i think anaesthetic takes something like 2 weeks to completely leave the body? I could be wrong haha everyone heals differently though I’ve just struggled personally and only starting to feel better today :/ xx

@beckis Hi Becki thanks so much for your comments 🙂 Unfortunately can only have a week off as I run the operations & HR of our company, I have to hire & train people etc obviously sods law it would happen at this time!! I’m trying my best to do it in advance of my op but realistically don’t think its going to happen 🙁 its not as if i can speak to my bosses about what im having done either as I dont think they would understand! I might see if they would allow me to work at home at all but right now looking like a no 🙁 I could look at starting later/finishing later so i miss the rush i guess or try for the verticle poles. And thank you mixture of nerves/ excitement now its come around so soon lol xx

@pt00081 oh bless you 🙁 How are you feeling today? would you say you have a high pain threshold hun? I’ve had GA a few times before and tend to sick it all up in a space of a few hours haha so hopefully it doesnt linger for 2 weeks or i will be unable to leave my bed xx

Hey fern, yes i do! I havent had children but i have scoliosis and sciatica since i was 14 so im constantly in pain with my back and i dont take any pain killers for it so i thiufht i could handle this haha. To be completely fair today has been like 100 times better. But i stopped taking the muscle relaxants since last night because they are definitely the culprits of how shit I’ve been feeling im so sure haha. I actually threw up 3 times after the anesthetic babe and still felt so off it, but i do feel a lot better today so yoy might cope really well:-)

I had uplift and unders a week off is far too little time ans u really should awe about getting extra time off. I wouldn’t put urself in a position whereby u can get knocked plus reaching for handles on a moving train/tube so soon after ur op is unthinkable. U really need time to heal. Having an uplift is more invasive than a regular boob job and tbh ur gona compromise ur results. Speak to ur surgeon and GP about getting signed off. It’s not worth the risk.

Hi Fern, I had Dr Fiumara and she is an amazing surgeon who is very cautious I 100% know she would not support only having seven days off to recover. I had my op just before Christmas and had a suspected blot clot in my leg just after my op which I was at risk of. However I had run the risk of it even more so because I was too active post op in my first week. Active as in I was moving around a lot and using my hands/arms to do small chores because I felt no pain. Walking to tesco with my mum despite large crowds on the way to the supermarket and whilst in there. Post op linda advises no arm movement from the elbow, no reaching, pushing, no carrying objects that weigh more than a laptop.

I saw Linda and she was extremely upset with me. She warned me that if someone had shoved me whilst out in public or bumped into my breasts they were so new I could have had massive repercussions and could compromise my surgery. I realised I had massively over done it and promised her I would literally stay sat with my hands by my side just as she had told me from the start.

I was recovering alone, my mother came to see me every so often so it was really hard for me as I didn’t have the support of a partner to help me bathe or prepare meals and it was kind of something I wished so bad I had because I felt really vulnerable.

You are not far off from your op so I would contact ur pc and the clinic asap because u are likely to incur some sort of charge. Due to what you are having and needing more time in theatre plus an overnight in the hospital is mandatory the sooner you sort this out the better because linda will need to book you in an extended slot. She is very particular and likes a lot of time booked out for surgery. I know becasue I asked a hell of a lot of questions while booking and when I couldn’t get the date I wanted which would have stopped me from having to call in sick to work.

Ur best bet is to see about getting signed off from work with a self certification that I downloaded from HMRC and got my mum to sent to work (just remember to get a photocopy, becasue up to seven days u can do that and don’t need a GP certificate (I did this myself but said I had severe diarrhea) or you could ask for a formal note from the clinic where they block off Myas details and state u have had surgery (it will state that it was elective and therefore scheduled ie. Cosmetic amd not life threatening.)

I was one of the lucky ones whereby I wasn’t in pain, didn’t throw up just felt discomfort and very fatigued. I managed to eat and was in high spirits despite being bored and feeling vulnerable. Some girls recovery is the complete opposite. I had a set routine and even managed to get myself in and out of the bath unaided for my four weeks of shallow bathing. I practised using my legs only to shuffle on my bum and get myself up as I knew I couldn’t use my hands to get me up. U don’t realise how often u use ur chest muscles to do the most basic of tasks like opening a door, stopping a tap even picking up a cup of tea! When I did something that was too much I would get a twinge which let me know it was not a good move! I also had to sleep upright for four weeks too and couldn’t use the gym for at least six weeks tbh I haven’t even gone back yet and my op was nearly sic months ago.

I would seriously advise speaking to ur pc and trying to see Dr Fiumara again to explain ur post op situation. If you really can’t call in sick due to the nature if your role then rescheduling with at least two weeks recovery booked would be your best bet. Apologies for the essay but having an uplift with unders is a lot more invasive to your body and it’s important u give ur body and mind time to heal to get the best results possible. Fxx
