    Hi girls

My surgery is booked for 8th September and because I have a strong family history of breast cancer and Braca 2 gene thy want to see a letter from my specialist confirming its ok for me to have this done.

Can anyone else who had a strong family history of this confirm if they needed to provide any letters or have any scans?

Really worried I’m not going to get this letter in time!!!

Hey charlotte, I had a history written on my form and I went for a scan yesterday, my surgeon wanted it done just to cover all aspects before surgery.
I had the scan yesterday and it’s instant results, the doctor just sent them straight over to my surgeon. My surgery is on Monday so it all gone done super quick.. only thing is you will have to go private to get quick appointment and results x

Hiya Charlotte I don’t really know much about the cancer thing as I haven’t had to do that. Just got all excited seeing that your surgery is the 8th September so is mine! Are you having it done in London? X

    Hi,
My mum has history of breast cancer, so she’s had to give prof of previous mammogram and she’s had to go for a new ultrasound scan for her surgery to go ahead! My mim had a lot of problems getting a new ultrasound scan, she paid about £300 for a private one. She is on this forum but hasn’t worked out how to use it yet lol..
    Hope this helps x

We live in Cornwall, so she went to Truro hospital (the mermaid clinic) for a private scan! You can also go to nut field for a private scan! I know there’s a few nut field clinics around the uk, there’s one in Plymouth, one in Bristol, all depends where you are! My mum is at work today but I’ll speak to her later explain to her how to write to people and see if she can message you..xx

Thanks vicki, I’ll have a look into it. One last thing does your mum remember when they told her she had to have the scan? Was it at the 4-6 week nurse check ? Xx

My mums surgeon (dr lutz) asked her to have a up to date scan on her first appointment meeting the surgeon. Dr lutz said it’s adviced I have one as well but I’m not a must for surgery! My mum managed to book a private scan within 2 weeks of having her appointment with her surgeon.. I think when it’s private they can get you in so much quicker than going through a doctor… and if you have already paid your deposit with mya and you don’t manage to get a private scan before your op they will move your date and you will not lose out on your deposit as it’s something the surgeon has asked for! This was the worry my mum had but they are good with things like this so try not to worry much! My mum also got her results on the same day to and they sent her results straight to mya xx

Thats ok.. feel free to add me or message me if there’s anything I can help with! I went to all my mums meetings and if there’s something I can’t answer I will always ask her.. but I’m sure all will be fine, my mum stressed right out when she left her appointment after being told this but it’s all worked out quick and easy… all the best xxx

Hi Charlotte , to get a quick appointment you have to go private, my clinic (bristol) advised me on one close and they actually got it all booked in for me, was done super quick and my surgeon only wanted an ultra sound rather than a mammogram. It was £250, I did do some research and majority of private hospitals are around that price ☺️ Hope you get it all sorted x

Hi I am Vickis mum, I think she has covered everything very well, I had a mammogram which they found a lump so I then had to have a ultra sound scan in total it came to £418. The lump they found was nothing to worry about but they were brilliant and done everything on the same day including results. I had problems doing all this by my nurse Joanna at the Bristol clinic really pulled the stops out and helped me. Feel free to message or add if you like, I’ll do my best to answer any questions. Helen xx

    Hey Charlotte,

I also have a strong history of breast cancer in my family and have been to specialist etc to advise on my situation. My surgeon requested that I have an ultrasound scan done but I didn’t want to pay hundreds when my cancer specialist told me there was nothing to be concerned about. So I asked her to write a letter addressed to my surgeon which he accepted! I hope that helps xx

Hi Helen, thanks for your reply and help, really appreciated.

Leah, that’s what they have asked me to do!! I am waiting for my specialist to write me a letter confirming it’s ok for me to have the BA. Taking ages how long did you have to wait and did you have to pay for it? They haven’t said anything about wanting a scan yet so hopeing the letter will be enough. Like yourself I don’t want to pay 100s for a scan! Xx

Hi Charlotte My doctor wrote a letter, but still have to have mammogram, yes I had to pay £418 was shocked at the expense but I one way relieved it’s all done as it’s given me peace of mind.
It was all done and sorted in two weeks. Hope I have been a help in any way xxx
