Hi everyone I am having my procedure done in January, i have two young children one aged 3 and the other will be 8 months, I’ve just read on here that you can’t lift young children for 6 weeks after your op!! :/ this seems pretty unrealistic, and I’m worried I won’t be able to take care of them properly now! My partner works from Home so he will be ale to help out lots but I can’t see myself not lifting my youngest son for 6 weeks… Has anyone else got young children and if so what did you do?! Xx

@shantel1992 I don’t have any children but I’m 1 week post opp now after having unders and I 100% would not be able to lift a child yet, however I’d say 6 weeks seems to be over cautious to me. Based on current healing rate I’d say I’d be ok after maybe 2 weeks. They say that overs recover much quicker though as three is no damage to the muscle. Hope that helps a bit but there are definitely some mums on here who will hopefully reply xx

Hi hun I’m PO day 12 with 2 young children (3 and 10 months) I’ve got to be honest it is so hard.

My partner went back to work yesterday and I’ve found it ridiculously hard lifting with the youngest for 12 hours alone so today he had to drop her off at mother in laws. I’ve pulled the muscle in my left breast & it needs time to heal now.

But I’ve now learnt the best way to pick her up is bend down to her level and lift with my forearms and squeeze her to me while trying my hardest not to use my pectoral if that makes sense lol?!

I know it will get easier as the days and weeks go on but the guidelines on not lifting are there for a reason I don’t want to develop further problems down the line same as anyone… especially after spending all that money! It’s unrealistic but I’ll have to limit lifting her as much as I can ? Xx

    Hey,
I am now 5 months post op. I had partials and have to be honest that it was difficult afterwards. I have a son who was 5yrs at the time and boy/girl twins who were 3yrs and caring for them was hard. I obviously didn’t need to do much lifting as they are older. But I definately couldn’t lift them for a good 4 weeks or so because it was just so uncomfortable- bare in mind though that they are obviously quite heavy at 3 and so it wouldn’t be as bad lifting your 8 month old. I couldn’t even lift my arms up at all from my side for about 6-7 days, I could only bend them at the elbow lol! The things I found hard once hubby went back to work was doing things like cooking for the kids- I couldn’t carry the saucepans because I literally had no strength from the muscle being cut. I would suggest you have help with food prep to make it easier and more simple for you once you are on your own, also put things like cups and anything you use in high cupboards at a more reachable level. It sounds like a nightmare, but I promise you that once you’re on the mend you will think it was worth it, week 4 was a real turning point for me and I remember being relieved one morning when I woke up and felt relatively ‘normal’! You will be fine, and you will cope because that’s what us mums are pros at…. You just might feel a bit frustrated with yourself and fed up while you’re recovering!
    Best wishes xxx

I’m also really worried about this. I have an almost 5 year old and an almost 2 year old. I have help for the first week and then I’m on my own and back to school runs etc. It’s really worrying me as I have no other option. Also back to work after the second week. Maybe I have been abit unrealistic? X

Thanks so much for all your helpful advice!! I will bear it all in mind and I’m sure I will be fine as I’m lucky enough to have my partner at home so he will just have to pull his weight with the kids I guess lol!! Another question… Has anyone had unders? Apparently it’s more painful? And has anyone had mr traynor do them? Xxxx
