literally feel as though I’ve been run over by a bus… I slept for about 3 hours last night and the pain today is unreal. I’m using paracetamol and ibuprofen as advised by my surgeon. Does any one have any tips to help with the pain or to help with the sleep issue.
A lot of my pain is in my upper back, between my shoulder blades as well which I wasn’t expecting?
1 side is a lot more swollen and firm at the top than the other, did anyone else find that?
Sorry, so many questions! I just don’t really know anyone who’s had a BA to ask all these questions to so I’m finding this forum really useful at the minute xX

If you have pain in your back hopefully this is trapped wind buy some peppermint oil casuals or mint tea should help. My swelling keeps swapping from side to side. I’m really shocked when I see not everyone was given muscle relaxant these have been a god send, I’m sure you could get them in chemist. Make sure you resting as much as possible. Hope the pain improves soon. X

Thanks for the advice Loraine, I might ask about muscle relaxants in a few days if things aren’t any better. It’s early days I suppose, think I was just a little bit too optimistic because my pain was so minimal yesterday then bang! xx

Hi Jess, I know exactly how you feel i had pain all in my shoulders, neck and back and it felt so so bruised but then you are on the operating table for a long period of time so its probably something to do with this. I am now 5 days post op and feel 100% better then i did, day 1-3 were the absolute worst for me. I still have a lot of pain but i am managing with paracetamol 🙂 drink lots, try and mobilise and sleep wherever you can. It does get better xxx

Hey hun sorry to hear ur back is in a bad way. Prior to my op I bought a backrest from argos it was about 22 quid and I used it for the four weeks advised by my surgeon to sleep upright at an angle. I also have a v pillow and about three other pillows to help me get comfy. I slept with no back ache issues at all just a sore bum from being sat down for so long.

Also double check with ur surgeon about taking the ibroprofen esp if it’s been prescribed because it can cause issue with ur blood when healing. Not trying to scare you but please double check with the nurses at Mya. I know some surgeons say it’s ok but it can lead to complications such as seroma and other infections post op.

I had unders and an uplift just took muscle relaxants, paracetamol, Piriton (had skin irritation from anesthesia). In my paperwork from my surgeon Dr Fiumara it warned me not to take ibroprofen pre and post op. Hope that helps and u manage to sleep better soon. Fx

Thanks Fran! I was surprised by the back pain, it’s so high up around my shoulder blades and has been there since I woke up from surgery, strange. I’ve just had a look at the back rest And I’m going to get one, so hopefully that will help, thanks for the tip!
I also had concerns about the ibuprofen initially but apparently, the most recent research is that there’s no increase in risk of complication (bleeding/haematoma etc) in those using ibuprofen compared with controls. (I’m a bit of a geek and looked into the research papers myself online too just to make sure lol). I know a lot of surgeons stick to avoiding them though because it’s relatively new evidence.
Thank you all for your replies it really helps. Xx

Mines the right that is more swollen too! I wonder if it’s because you use that arm more or something. I’m currently sat with a bag of frozen peas on them and its soothing it abit!

Ice packs are amazing for swelling I literally had mine on constantly at the beginning and it tends to numb it so it isn’t as painful. You can go to your gp if you feel you need stronger pain meds, I got some codeine of my friend and toon that for 3 days and it helped so much really took the edge off xx
