I’ve got a 3 hour drive home so was just wondering if anyone knew if you can request a early admission, don’t want to be driving back at 10 arriving home at 1 ?

I don’t think you can, from what I’m told it’s first come first served when booking your surgery date, but you can always ask? My surgery was at Preston which is 3 hours away from where I live. My nurse advised me to book a hotel incase anything was to happen after I left the hospital. Sooo glad I did! My admission time was 11 went down at 4:30 and wasn’t discharged until 11:30pm by that time me and my boyfriend were exhausted and we only had a 20 minuet drive back to the hotel. There was no way I could’ve coped with the drive back home after the surgery and the long day at the hospital, I don’t think my boyfriend had the energy either! x

I think il ask at my pre op and see what they say, see if they can give me a rough estimate as I don’t want to book a hotel unnessarily think I’d rather have my own bed, just with the long drive I’d rather not really late ?

I requested to not have an 8am admission (couldn’t with my son) I ended up 11am and 6th on the List which meant I went down at 3.30 was around at 5 and left at 7.30-8 whereas they told me I would probably leave at 6 on 11 admission. Don’t think they can tell you 🙁 x

I asked my Nurse Coordinator this week if admission time was based on anything – ie if I booked first for that day would I be in first? She said no, not based on anything. Day cases will be seen first, so they can recover and go home…. but that’s it.

@rachel99 They didn’t ask but I just said it’s because I’ve got a long journey home so I’d rather be in and out early. I ended up staying at a hotel the night of my op anyway which I’m glad about cos I was in agony and wouldn’t have been able to travel! I think I asked on the day I booked my op, so about 2.5 months in advance x

Agree with above! MYA staff advise staying overnight near the hospital if you live more than 1 hour away just in case anything goes wrong. I know it’s nice to be in your own bed but it definitely put my mind at ease, plus I literally would not have been able to travel home the same day as I was in soooo much pain! X
