I was booked in for my BA on 12/03/16, and received my admission early in the week for 12:00. I was advised not to eat for 6 hours and not to drink for 2 before admission. I woke up at 9:30, had a glass of water and showered and got my stuff ready. I was staying at a nearby hotel which I 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND ??

I arrived at the Fitzroy around 11:55 and was asked to wait in reception for a few minutes. My bf made himself a coffee  (grrrr) and within 5 mins a nurse came to collect us. We were taken up to my room (room 2) which was a lot nicer than the hotel room with a nice en suite.  The room was very clean with a beautiful view onto what I believe is Fitzroy park. There was an awkwardly angled TV above my head and a bedside table, heater, fan etc. It was quite comfy.

I popped to the loo and when I came our a nurse was waiting for me. She introduced herself and gave me a gown,  dressing gown, stockings, slippers, a hair net, a pee pot and pregnancy test (which they will do).  They asked me to change as soon as possible and the nurse did my pregnancy test straight away. About 10 minutes later another nurse popped in and introduced herself, and gave me a menu for meals (I was an overnight case). I was suprised how healthy everything was (salmon detox box or grilled chicken etc).

Around 1:15pm a nurse came in and said I had a long wait yet, so gave me a small glass of water and asked me to note when I drank it (which was immediately as I was super thirsty). Soon after Dr Fiumara came in and ran through everything we discussed previously and we had a discussion regarding size and placement. We both had the same thoughts on what would be best and agreed on 400 and 375cc overs. She drew on me and made notes and took more measurements. I didn’t see her again after this.

I signed some consent forms and then the wait began. Around 2:30 a nurse came and and weighed and measured me, and said Dr F was still in surgery but I’d be next. She also said that my choice of post op bras werent good as they had padding (m&s) and that she sees a lot of girls now bringing them. She said it’s hard for them to judge swelling in these because the padding adds so much size. The anesthetist came in and introduced himself, he was very friendly and chatty and asked about what I do for a living.  Around 3:30 a nurse came in and said Dr f was done in surgery and I’d be next. Around 4:25 my bf went out and asked when I’d be going in and they said that they were sorry but she was still in there with the last patient.

Finally, around 4:45 two nurses came in and said it was time. At this point all I could think is how hungry and thirsty I was. I hadn’t eaten since 7pm the night before and had had a small shot of water at 1:20 so wasn’t feeling the best. I was taken to have the cannula put it and before I even had time to panic (hate needles) it was already done. I was taken into theatre and the nurses were all really pleasant and chatty. The last thing I recall is the anesthetist saying how calm I was but I think that was down to hunger Haha.

I was woken around 7:40 and immediately began wretching. The nurses quickly brought me a bowl but I obviously had nothing to bring up. I don’t recall any pain at this point. I was wheeled back to my room feeling very dazed. The nurses helped me bum shuffle onto my bed (I automatically just went to pull myself with my arms). Normally I am a 34a/b and I remember them trying to wrestle a 36d onto me with no luck and asking in a panic if this is all I had.  I’d brought a 36dd as well and they managed to get it on together.

After about 20 mins my bf had to leave as 8:00 is end of visitng hours . He told me that the Dr had been to see him and said she was pleased and it had gone really well. I was too dazed to for conversation and managed to say goodbye.
I woke up at 9:14 to a lovely nurse taking my blood pressure. She asked me if I was ready to eat, I said yes and immediately fell back asleep (I knew I should eat but I was no where near awake enough). She clearly knew this and brought my food around half hour later and woke me again. She brought me a chicken and avocado sandwich with a banana and a yoghurt.  I really struggled eating the sandwich. I kept falling asleep and waking up with it in my hand lol and also every bite felt so heavy it made me want to be sick.

It took me a grand total of 90 minutes to eat that sandwich. The nurse regularly came back to see how I was doing which I appreciated. She opened my bananas and yoghurt but I didn’t think I could stomach them. I tried them and they were exactly what I needed and I devoured both in about 2 minutes flat ? hah. I then fell asleep until 5 am.

Around 6 am the same nurse came in and asked how I was, felt the top of my boobs and helped me up to the toilet. She showed me how to manoeuvre myself and flushed the toilet for me afterwards (stiffest flusher ever). She poured me some water and held it up for me to drink and helped me adjust my pillows and TV before getting me breakfast. She really was an oustanding nurse (I can’t remember shamefully if her name was Jane or esther).

It once again tool me ages to eat my toast (45 mins) I think bread is too heavy for me post op. But again I managed to wolf down my yoghurt and some cereal. I went back to sleep for a while and then a male nurse came in to check everything was okay and what time I’d be being collected. He brought some review forms for me to complete.

Around 9am I decided to try get myself up with help of the bed controls and go to the loo, which I did no problem. I manged to brush my teeth (electric)apply some make up, have a quick clean and get dressed.  Even managed to lace my shoes. At 9:55 the nurse came back and removed my cannula (which bled a surprising amount). A nurse then carried mys bag down to the car outside for me. I had my v pillow, neck pillow and blankets to pad out the car and they did the job perfectly.

Hi ladies 🙂 glad you found it useful! I’ve had no pain so far just a whole lot of itching.

Jessica, I stayed in the European hotel for a night, my bf stayed for two. We chose it because I was cheap (160 for Friday and Saturday nights) but if I’d be staying in a hotel after my op I’d 100% go for the premier inn nearby. They have a good night guarantee and they tend to be comfy and quiet. Good luck! X

I’m not sure about different meals per se, but when we were told I’d be waiting several hours my bf went out and brought load of food stuff in, biscuits crisps etc. The food choices are pretty limited so I can’t see it being a massive problem
