Hiya I’ve spoken with my pc and nurse as I am on anti depressants and currently having counselling . I’m also under a psychiatrist. After reading on this forum got really worried that my op would be cancelled right at the last minute. My psychiatrist and gp have both written letters stating I’m in the right frame of mind to make a life changing decision . My pc reassured me they certainly would never cancel someone’s op if the doctors are happy for you to go ahead. However if your gp believes it’s not in your best interests they have no option but to cancel . Of course they want your custom but can’t go against doctors recommendations. I have been on medication since October . So excited hot my pre op next week and surgery in May .
Hope this puts other ladies minds at rest xx

i had this worry also! i had my pre op on Thursday and my nurse had received a letter from my GP saying he was all happy for it to go ahead so my nurse said that was fine and all got signed off as fit and well despite having stomach issues and many hospital visits. I got my GP to do a letter as soon as I made a the surgeon appointment so it was all organised in time 🙂 I did a lot of worrying for everything to be all fine! hope your pre op goes well Hun, only thing I had done was swabs to check for MRSA, height, weight and blood pressure 🙂 xx

Due to my “extensive” mental health problems. I don’t think being depressed 5 years ago has any baring on my current mental status. I onky ever saw a psychiatrist once for an initial assessment not treatment. And had community counselling for 6 weeks. That’s all. I’d hardly call that extensive. My GP couldn’t understand why they said no either x

MYA are lying I’m on antidepressants and was seeing A councellor to help me through a difficult time that I had. They also said to me that as long as I got a letter from my gp and councellor stating that I’m stable for surgery then it would all be fine. I got both letters had my surgeon consultation and my pre op appointment which went well and they said it was all fine and then a week before my op they cancelled. X

the nurse told me over and over again I would need to go and get counselling (despite being depressed 5 years ago!!!!) and then there’s a 6 month exclusion from when you finish counselling until being able to have surgery! If anything would make you depressed, it’s having your surgery cancelled!x

They have a policy at MYA you have to have been on or off anti depressants for 6 months before your op. I was supposed to have my op 24th April but has been postponed to 7th June because of this. Very frustrating as I already had to pay for a Drs letter to confirm I was okay to go ahead with procedure due to a blood disorder, I had gone for my pre op and on my way home after pre op I got a phone call from my nurse telling me my op was going to have to be postponed xx

I’m so upset. Mya called e yesterday to say my op next week has been cancelled as I saw my psychiatrist within the last 12 months. I on,y saw the psychiatrist as I was post natal as a precaution. Not because I actually needed to see them. What can I do? Im so so upset. I’ve made an appointment to get discharged from the psychiatrist but the soonest is 29th July!! Meaning MYA have my money now and won’t see me again for a year from then. I think it’s a joke. My mental health has been stable for well over a year and my breakdown was due to the bereavement of my mother. I find it so discriminating. Please help advise me what I can do. Thank you ladies xxx

I think they should give your money back so u can get booked somewhere else asap, mya are only 1s with this discrimination rule its outrageous, can u cancel the op and just say u dnt want it anymore? They should give u it then go else were, they need to stop taking people’s money and clear everything at consultation, in was 100% stable I sed to them I’m a mum of 3 with a normal life and still it was a no, so they didn’t deserve my custom, hope u get it back and find some were else xx
