This may be a silly question (I’ve never had an operation before so have never been put to sleep)….Under GA, a tube is put down your throat to keep you breathing isn’t it…Do they take this out before you are woken up?
I know this is probably a stupid question but I genuinely don’t know the answer and was thinking about it last night :-/ x

Hi lovely, if they do put a tube down your throat then you definitely don’t know about it. I’ve had 2 operations, one when I was very little and one a couple of years ago and neither of them did I know about it. You are literally out of it. You only have a canular in your hand which they take out afterwards. It’s just in case you need a drip xx

I had never had a op before so chose the sedation option with Mr kazzazi. But with a general you are ventilated with a tube and as they are bringing you round its removed with out you knowing. You may experience a sore throat but that’s about it

Hi Hun I had my op on Friday and was worried about this too so asked the nurse at the hospital she said they put a small tube in when your under and then take it out before you come around, she said I might have a sore throat afterwards but I didn’t, all was fine!! 🙂 x

I can’t really remember being put to sleep, when I woke the nurse told me I was all done I was that shocked I cried as it felt as if I only had a little nap I was overwhelmed by it all.
I was taken to theatre at 4.10 was back in my room having cup of tea and toast by 5.30!
Please don’t stress yourselfs out with it, I know it’s easier for me to say this now but it’s fine and before my op I was a bag of nerves. Xx

You don’t remember it Hun, the nurse asked me if I was scared of needles so put numbing cream on my hand before they put the cannula in. The anaesthetist was talking to me and didn’t even tell me she was going to put it in and I didn’t notice! She told me I’d feel drunk but all I can remember thinking is I’m not going to fall asleep, it’s not working!! The next thing I knew I was waking up in my room, just felt like id had a long sleep. I was so worried about being put under, I made every staff member I saw promise me id wake up!! Honestly nothing to worry about! X

hey hun i’ve been under GA before!
If they do put a tube in your throat you certainly dont know about it!
the only slight discomfort is putting in the cannula! then you just drift off to sleep way faster than you expect and then your awake!
i’m glad i’m having GA just worried about the cannula but i’ve heard its not too bad, i just had a bad experience with it last time but despite this I’m still glad to be going under!
    dont worry hun xxxx

Ive had loadsss of operations and honestly its fine! The GA is a nice relaxing, warm feeling and you just drift off. When you wake up it’s like you’ve had an afternoon nap and your still tired, and if they do put a tube in you don’t know about it because its taken out before you wake up 🙂 x

Awww thank you ladies, I definitely feel better about it now, that was the only bit I was worried about, having the tube put down my throat and then knowing when they are taking it out. As long as I don’t feel it literally being taken out then i can deal with a sore throat for my new boobies 😀 xx

This post is so reassuring! I’ve been more worried about the GA bit than anything else. 🙂 xo
