I was wondering if anyone with hashimotos or underactive thyroid had any issues after surgery? X

I have a severely underactice thyroid so would like to know about this too. I’ve tried searching the forum and I can’t see anything from the few other girls who’ve posted about this. I doubt there will be anything else to know tbh, for me it’ll probably take slightly longer to heal maybe x

Hi Rebecca, I just assume as there isn’t much Info that it isn’t going to be an issue, apart from as you say it may take a little longer to heal and may feel a bit rubbish for a while…but that’s nothing new! Ha, ha! X

Hi girls. I have an underactive thyroid and had my surgery Feb 13th.

Pre op – they will want to test your blood to make sure your thyroid is stable, mine was slightly out (first time in 9 years would you believe it) and so they needed confirmation that it has been stable for a long time prior to this and confirmation that your gp isn’t changing your meds. (I think if they do change your meds like the dosage if it’s way out you may have to postpone surgery so if you have not booked your op go get your thyroid checked before hand if I had it would have saved a lot of stress)

Post op – I’ve had no problems I am coming up to 4 weeks post op and have healed fine and normally. I’ve continued to take my thyroxine normally and have also been taking vitamin B-complex as they say vit B works hand in hand with your thyroid. I wouldn’t reccomend taking these before hand though just in case.

Any questions feel free to contact me girls. Good luck on your journeys x

Yeah it’s not like we aren’t used to feeling rubbish haha. Ah yeah I heard about them checking our bloods, I still get mine done every six weeks so should be fine with that 🙂 x

Me too, every 6 weeks, but do tend to swing all over the place.. So that may be an issue. Last test was 7.5 so just upped my thyroxine to 100mcg.

I’d probably just go to the doctors and ask for you bloods to be done again when you’ve been for your pre op with the nurse they’ll be able to tell them how stable your bloods have been etc x

I think the pre op tests should establish if your okay.. Can’t imagine they would let you go ahead if not.. GP maybe if your not sure! X

Severely underactive too. As has been said, blood is checked and levels checked. Note from GP to check they agree to your surgery being done.
Recovery was alright, wouldn’t say it’s any worse than anyone else just be sure to keep on top of your medication. I’m always tired and feel shit anyway so tbh I’m used to it haha.

All they need to know is if it’s stable/being controlled. I was told they wouldn’t operate on anyone with an unstable thyroid but it’s up to your gp/surgeon/anesthetist as to what actually counts as unstable so don’t panic. I’ve had mine medicated for 10 years so am on yearly blood tests so obviously had the aggro because it had been 10 months since my last one.

Any girls feeling tired post op I can’t recommend B vitamins enough. They have really boosted me x

Oh no that’s not good, bet your gutted! I’m off work sick at the moment feel really ill, couldn’t go through an operation feeling like this. I have just been reading about an essential oil mix that is ment to be really good for regulating TSH and antibodies, it’s called endoflex, I know this won’t help for Friday, but might help to stabilise your levels. What are they going to do, when can you have it done? X

    Hello girls,
Ive booked my operation on May fir breast enhancement but because I have Hashimoto my surgeon wants to check the blood levels of TSH. The thing that worries me is the TSH which is a bit out of norm as it should be up to 5 but mine is 6.8. Im not taking any medicine as I feel well without any symptomes. However, do u think that would be a problem for this intervation.
    Thanks in advance xx
