Hi girls,
All has been going well healing wise but this evening I noticed that I have a white bit poking out of the end of one of my scars and it looks a bit red.
Is this a stitch sticking out?
I assumed they had come out already but I’m panicking a bit cos I go on holiday next week and want to be able to go in the sea and swim.
Has anyone else had this? xx
iv not had it but have hurd of others having this sort of thing for some of them it was stitching and for others it was dry skin, at your 6 week check up did they say you was healed up enough to go in the sea and go swimming ect
I had my 6 week check last week, the stitch wasn’t poking out when I went but both the nurse and surgeon said that the scars are healed enough to go swimming etc.

If you have a stitch poking out then there will opportunity for bacteria to get in and for you to get an infection. I would see my nurse asap if I were you and I wouldn’t be doing any swimming, there is all sorts of bacteria in the water, be it sea or swimming pool…x
I’m 4 weeks po and my bf pulled out 3 of my stitches last week. My scars felt lumpy where the stitches were but feel ok now and not sore at all. We tried to pull them the previous week but they weren’t ready. If you pull it gently it should come out after 7 weeks, you should be healed properly. If you’re worried or squeamish your nurse will be able to do it for you. X
Hi Girls, thought I’d give an update on the situation in case anyone is in the same position..
This morning I decided to see if I could gently pull the stitch that was poking out with some tweezers to ease it out. I pulled really really gently…. and it came out so easily!! I checked the area again this evening and the redness has gone down and it has healed over already. I’m going to keep a close eye on it but looks as though all it needed was a bit of help coming out 🙂 Thanks for the advise Leigh – I don’t think I’d have braved it if you hadn’t said 🙂 xx
