I hear so much contradictory advise on when it is ok to sleep on your side, it’s really confusing. I’m dying to give it a try but I am only 1 week post op and some have said 6 weeks before you can sleep on your side others say whenever your comfortable to do so. Can anyone who has had a BA tell me when they started to sleep on their side and whether it affected their new boobs or not. Thanks xxx

Hey Holly. I spent one night sleeping on my side and I found that it caused me a lot of pain when I woke up and I didn’t get a good night’s sleep at all. Then when I went for my 1 week post op appointment the nurse told me that as the muscle is still healing and everything is settling it’s best to sleep on your back for the first 6 weeks to ensure good and even results as sleeping on your side will put a lot of pressure on one breast.
However….The other day I had a nap and tried putting a large pillow underneath me and lay on the edge of it so that my boobs weren’t touching anything(if that makes sense). It seemed to be okay as I wasn’t lying on my boob and there was no pain or pressure. I’m guessing the girls at mya would still say that is better to lie on your back but if you’ve got to do it every so often just for comforts sake try the pillow trick. It’ll at least prevent got from hurting yourself in your sleep. x

    Hello Hun
I feel the same! I have slept on my side and i can so it comfortably, i am about 12 days post op now! But when i went to get my strapping off my nurse told me it was okay to sleep on my side? I feel like a lot of the nurses offer such different advice from clinic to clinic so thats why it’s confused! I am trying to stick to my back tho as i think there’s some truth about putting too much pressure on one boob!xxx

Thanks girls. Think I’ll try and stick to my back but try a few less pillows. I’m thinking about ordering a memory foam donut cushion to put under my bum haha. X
