Incisions & tape – how long do you keep tape on?

Hi everyone, just wanted a bit of advice please. Had my dressings removed tonight, the nurse said the incisions look ok although the right one has not knitted together yet as well as they would have expected it too. It was bleeding a little ?. So she put steristrips on me, told me I can’t bath or shower still for another 6 days (fabulous ?) . She gave me a pack of spare tape and said I can replace it if I need to, there’s only enough to retape them once tho I think. How long do you have to keep the tape on for? For some reason I thought my surgeon told me 6 weeks? Is that what everyone else did? Thanks ladies xx

@elysia I had the same and my nurse told me not to take the dressings off for 5 days after my checkup and as long as no fluids were leaking through and the dressing was clean I could take them off and shower. I could just keep them off after the 5 days though, I think it was just to make sure my incision had completely healed over. If your not sure just call the nurse or your PC 🙂 xx

Thank you for replying @kershia ? I clearly should have taken notes when I was told everything about looking after the incisions etc as it’s all gotten confused and basically fallen out of my head ?! How are yours healing up now have you been able to take the dressing off and have a shower? X

No problem it’s fine 🙂 it does all get a bit confusing after a while I asked her about 3 times after she told me to double check haha, I was able to take the dressings off and had my first shower which was really strange it felt like they were going to fall off without the sports bra haha, but unfortunately on one of my incisions a staple came through and stopped it from healing over so it got a little bit infected ? It’s back under a dressing now until this week, how are yours healing? x

Oh man sorry to hear that your staple came through, I hope you’re getting on alright and your incisions all better when the dressing comes off. I’ve still got mine covered in steristrips, I can take it off on Friday. I’m too chicken to to take the tape off and check on how the right one is healing, just hoping its ok for Friday. Took a pic of the underneath of my boobs as let’s be fair it isn’t easy to see the incisions very well, think they look ok (although one seems higher up the boob than actually on the crease area) and I have noticed a few stretch marks ☹️, although I’d rather have stretch marks and big boobies than no boobs at all ?!! Xx
