Hey girls, getting closer to my op and I’m really worrying about going back to work, I’m a dog groomer so very physical job! I work with my boyfriend and he’s said he’ll help out more with washing the dogs etc.. but I don’t want him washing every dog as it’s not fair.
I’m taking 3 weeks off work and I’m hoping it’ll be enough? Did you feel ok after 3 weeks.. I’ll be bending over the bath washing which takes me approx 10-15 mins each dog and just wondering if you girls felt up to doing anything like that after 3 weeks.. or do they still hurt? I’m having unders and want to try and wash about 2 dogs a day (so less than I usually wash but it wouldn’t be as much pressure on my boyfriend)
I’ve already got customers booked in/full days for when I get back in work as I’ve tried to be organised as we’ve got lots of regulars but worried incase I have to let them down ???? we can’t really afford to loose anyone..

I’m 6 weeks po and still find hoovering rather uncomfortable no advice on the grooming but my mother is a dog groomer and what I see it’s far more strenuous then pushing a hoover round lol but we all heal differently good luck with your op hope all goes well x

I had uplift and unders, I’m 3 weeks PO and feel pretty much back to normal.

I haven’t tried to lift anything of great weight yet but I wouldn’t say I couldn’t, I have managed shopping bags etc.. I think the worst part is lifting above your head.

I’m a midwife, so while I’m not washing dogs my job can be pretty physical. My PCN is aware of my job and said 2 weeks should be okay for me, but I have also moved shifts around to give myself longer off anyway.
    Good luck!

I’m only 2 weeks post op but I can’t walk my dog yet and I definitely wouldn’t be able to lift him yet either. Have only just managed lifting the kettle and opening the microwave door, still wouldn’t open the dishwasher but I did have an uplift too x

@Chantelle I’m a nanny and whilst it’s not washing dogs it’s fairly physical, I was told by my PC that I would be ok to go back after having two weeks off providing I was mindful of myself when at work. I think it depends on each person so I would see how you go, I’d imagine if you fully rest and look after yourself for the three weeks and then took it easy you should be ok. Just make sure you’re fully supported and take extra care 🙂

i work as cabin crew and have taken 4 weeks off work. I’m fairly able at pod12 after having unders, but no way could i operate one of our doors, or pull the trolleys at this stage. I’m worrying that 4 weeks won’t be enough!! x

Hey I’m also a dog groomer, I have my surgery on the 10th of January my PC adviced I take 2weeks of work but won’t be able to lift heavy dogs for a few weeks after so I won’t be lifting anything bigger than a shih-tzu just incaase. I work with 2/3 others people so I will be mainly doing shaving, cutting maybe if your partner helps out the dog in the bath and get it back out. What is your surgery date? X

Hi, im also a dog groomer…. I have my op on 11th Jan and ive booked 4 weeks off work. My surgeon also recommended this but I would have anyway as i’ll go to all lengths to recover to my fullest. I can be at work lifting and washing ect and I do think to myself “God, I’m going to struggle coming back” as its a lot of movement around the arms and chest area. And then what ive done on my 1st week back ive only booked 3 dogs per day and gave myself plenty of time to get back into it steadily…planned and booked my customers so I avoid any disappointment. I suppose its one of those things you wont know until the time comes but just take it steady and get a bather/dryer and you just cut. xxx

    Hey Rebecca!
I was advised by my surgeon 2 weeks but I definitely feel I’d need the extra week just to be safe 🙂 and yea that’ll be no problem at all as my boyfriend has to lift most of them out now due to my back, don’t know how I’m going to cope after surgery lol, I suppose it’ll be worth it!! Just didn’t want him washing every single dog as I know how much it kills your knees and back. My surgery date is 4th January! It’s all coming around so fast xxx

    Hey nyree,
4 weeks is a good amount of time! 🙂 and I am exactly the same I’m just working thinking Jesus Christ how am I going to do this when I get back!! Like when they’re fighting against you or there putting all there weight on you and let’s not even think about all the dematting! Jeez. I was hoping to do the same and just have three dogs a day for a week or so but I literally couldn’t as there was so many that needed booking in and a lot of our customers can be quite arsey tbh! So if I need the extra time off I’m just going to have to tell them.. praying that won’t be the case. I’m dreading it as some days are literally none stop! I’ll just have to see how I go.. and my boyfriend (and me) doesn’t want to have anyone else in as don’t want to pay someone a wage especially that time of year and also our salon isn’t huge so may get a little cramped, we have talked about that though.. instead I think we’re going to get our bath raised so it’s not bending down when we’re washing them. Hopefully we won’t be doing this job forever anyway! Xxx

Hi Courtney I’m a third year student midwife and don’t know whether I should just wait until I finish my course next year? I don’t want to wait that long though! Lol. I’m thinking maybe I could get it done during holidays/private study?
