Right then…I’ve always been sporty and into exercise. My weight has fluctuated between 10.3 stone and 12 stone over the past couple of years but even at my slimmest and fittest I still had this podgy lower belly. When looking in a mirror I am instantly drawn to it, and focus on it so much. I am completely convinced that I would be so much more confident about my body in a bikini if my tummy was flat. Some people are blessed with a flat tummy but unfortunately you can’t choose where your fat is stored, or where it goes from when you exercise/loose weight! When i draw in my tummy and tense my abs, the upper part is flat but below my belly button is the problem area.

MYA clinic in Birmingham have been very friendly and I ended up with 2 consultations with Dr Alan Kingdom as I when I got home from my 1st consultation I thought of a bunch of questions that I should’ve asked but must have been overwhelmed! Dr Kingdom was professional and friendly and has alot of experience with lipo and laser lipo. I was quite unsure to go ahead as there doesn’t seem to be anyone on the forum that’s had it, and I can hardly find and pre and post pictures of the area i wanted doing. I certainly didn’t want to spend so much money (£2,000) if i wasn’t going to get the results i wanted. It is a lot of money, but I kept saying to my boyfriend that it’s a small price to pay for eternal happiness! Lol.

So this all happened over the previous couple of months and I went ahead and put my deposit down for Laser Lipo on 1 area (predominantly lower abs) at the beginning of April 2011. After a bit of a problem being double booked on my date, it seemed that would be the end of my journey. However, all was sorted in the end and I had my laser lipo on Thursday 5th May 2011, at 1pm.

Arrived at 12.30 and went straight upstairs to the treatment rooms. I was very nervous so the nurse gave me a tablet help along with an antibiotic. I got undressed put on gown and disposable thong and the surgeon came in and drew on my tummy the areas to focus on. Then i went into the treatment room and got on the table. The nurses were very friendly and talked to me throughout.

First I was injected with the local anaesthetic numbing solution. Mild pain, but once numb, no pain whatsoever. Through the 4 small incisions the Dr then inserted the laser and did the lipo! From what I understand the laser melts the fat under the skin and then another device is inserted to suck the fat out. I didn’t feel any pain during this time but it was an extremely weird sensation. Bit uncomfortable but I wasn’t expecting to feel nothing at all anyway. I could feel the numbing solution running off my tummy and down my back.

After about an hour I was done! The nurses helped squeeze the last of the numbing solution out of my tummy before they put on pads over my incisions. Then they wrapped me in my post op abdominal support garment which i was to wear day and night for a week, and then just in the day for the following week or longer if i wanted more support. I’d booked Friday off work so returned to work on Monday.

So far I think i can see a small difference and it’s only been 1 week. I think my lower abs do look flatter but as there is alot of swelling and bruising underneath the skin my whole tummy seems a bit bigger at the moment. So hopefully as the swelling goes down my tummy will draw in and my tummy should be flat! I was warned that it would take time, weeks to months to see a difference and even up to 6 months to see the full results. It does look and feel bumpy now but after seeing the nurses for a post op check up today i was told that this is normal and its bruising which should go down and some of the lumps will be due to the waist garment i’m wearing as when you sit down it creases (you’ll see what i mean on the pics!). Apparently when my tummy isn’t too sore/bruised i will be able to massage my tummy to help disperse the lumps and swelling. I wasn’t black and blue, but looking now i have some yellow patches which i think are the end of bruising.

Hope that helps! I am trying to upload pics but there’s an error message saying the pics are too big! :(

P.S. I’m praying that all the lumps, bumps, bruising and swelling does go but i am still less than 2 weeks post op and have been told it can take weeks, to months to see a result and up to 6 months for swelling to have gone completely. Fingers crossed big time!

Hi becky, I had laser lipo with Dr Kingdon in Birmingham on Wednesday. The area I had done was my jowells and chin.

I totally agree with your story, it’s not painful, just uncomfortable!

I am wearing this hideous garment 24/7 so I can’t go out the house for fear of being stared at!

Glad you’re seeing some results!! I can’t see anything as yet as I am still bandaged to high heaven!!

    xx

With laser lipo the incisions are probably half of a centimetre, the canula and laser are as thick as the nib of a bic pen! x

Bet your excited Tracy! I still feel bruised and can feel lumps under my skin on tummy but they say that will go in time (it had better do as this isn’t the look I was going for!) I’m nearly 3 wks now n apparently it can take months to see full effect. Have checkup at 6 wks with Dr Kingdom so will c what it’s like then x
