Hi, it’s been suggested that I have a mammogram (cost of £200 to me, in a local private hospital as not offered on NHS) before having my breast enlargement op. I’m 36 years old and was told I needed to have it done, has anyone else been told this?

Obviously its my health so want to make sure I’m ok to have it but has anyone else gone thru this?

    Thanks xx

The only reason I can think is if their is family history of breast cancer?
Pre-screens like that usually have to be self funded @india You may find a surgeon who will take the price off your ba if you get the all clear, but it’s very rare x

I’m not symptomatic and I don’t think 36 is that old so bit miffed that I’m having to do this before! Also it’s not offered to anyone under 50 on the nhs for a reason. It’s not as effective in spotting the signs in younger women.

I’m having to pay for mine £200 and wait 2 weeks for the results when I want the op in October. So it’s looking like my surgery won’t be going ahead if I don’t get an appointment soon! It’s very stressful.

That’s frustrating! Even though there’s a history of breast cancer? As I’m sure my mum said once I turn 18 I have to have them every so often due to the history? Hoping I can get it done for free as it’s becoming a nightmare xxx

You may well get it for free on the nhs as you have a strong family history, your best thing to do is speak to your doctor I guess.

It wasn’t mentioned once at my MYA consultation so in a way I’m quite happy the surgeon at Belvedere has suggested it in case they do find something.
