    Hi Beth.

You have a MRSA swab at the Pre op with the nurse. You’d only be at risk of having it if you’ve been in hospital or had an op recently.
I’d imagine if you have MRSA you won’t be able to have any surgery and you’d have to treat and be free from it before you can have a medical procedure due to the risk it will pose after the op.

    Hi Beth,

I had my pre-op a few weeks ago at the hospital where i work, I was told that its quite rare but if you did have it you have to use a cream up your nose for a few days and use a special shower gel to get rid?? so would think even if it was positive you would be fine xxxx

Hi Beth, if you have it i think your hospital or clinic would give it to you or let you know where to get it xx

Mrsa can live on everyone’s skin and doesnt affect us at all even if younhavent been near a hospital. When you have surgery it can get into the wound and affect healing and get into your blood. This is why they swab your skin before the op. If you are positive they will gibe you nasal ointment and body wash and will re swab you 3 times you must be negative on these 3 swabs a week apart before you can have the op. You can buy hibiscrub body was at boots but they nasal stuff is prescription only. I work in a hospital directly with patients who have mrsa and i tested negetive so dont worry too much.
