Sorry for all the questions. I have my op Monday and I have millions of questions I still realise I haven’t asked ha ha.

I’m due my period Monday – typical! Although I’m usually a few days late every month. However I’ve asked my doctor for norethisterone tablets (these pospone your period until you stop taking them) as I didn’t know how much pain I’d be in and how difficult changing a tampon etc would be. (Sorry to be so graphic girls!)

I didn’t actually ask the nurse in my pre op appointment if I was ok to take these. Does anyone know or did anyone else do the same?! I’m due to start them tomorrow but don’t want to muck anything up if I’m not meant to!

    Thanks in advance! Xxxx

I would be careful. Ring ur doctor or the nurse before hand. I know I tried to get them once and they wouldn’t give them to me because I was flying I do have a family history of blood clots tho. But surgery is a big risk so I would make sure

I take tablets for my periods to reduce the blood usually. But I’ve had to stop these a month ago due to having my op in 2 weeks. I wouldn’t risk it, or if atleast phone and ask them x

I did think this!! I’ve taken them before no problem but obviously not for surgery. Just really don’t like the idea of coming on when I’m about to go into surgery (urgh!!!) il give the nurse a call tomorrow. Thank you ladies xx

I dont think they will allow you to take them to be honest as they are funny with medication being taken beforehand incase it messes your system up or reacts to anything they will be giving you. I have read if your going to be in your period on the day of surgery to wear a pad rather than a tampon because of toxic shock. As much as you probably dont like to use them i do think a pad would be easier to use instead of a tampon in the days after surgery xx

    Hi hun!
I’m currently 17DPO and I had my period when I had my op. Everything was completely fine, the nurses are amazing!
I wouldn’t worry too much hun but I wouldn’t really recommend taking any other medication before your op as it might affect the aneasthetic. Definitely speak to one of the nurses beforehand to make sure that it is ok though if the medication is what you would prefer.

You should be ok to take then. Norethisterone is almost like the Pill and is hormane based so will not affect your clotting. Medications such as Tranexamic acid or Mefenamic that women take to cotrol bleeding are totally different and not suitable to take as cause clotting. Check with your clinic though but should be fine as long as you start taking it at least 3 days before you are due on
