As I’ve never had a pre op in my life I’m unsure as to what to expect, can anybody advise me? Xx

Hey Hun! The pre-op is nothing to worry about – it’s basically just a chat through everything with the nurse. She will go through the procedure and ask you various questions around your health, lifestyle etc. The nurse will take your height/weight, some swabs and will take your pre-op photographs. I think in some cases they may take a blood tests depending on your medical history but I personally didn’t have that… So may have completely made that up! It’s a good chance to ask your questions aswell particularly about the op itself and the follow up care etc. I think I was in there about half an hour! Hope this helps but feel free to ask any more questions if you want to know anything xx

    Hi Kate

aww thanks very much for your reply, that really helps. I just wanted to make sure I was prepared for what to expect etc. The swabs are for MRSA aren’t they? I cant say im looking forward to getting pre-op pics taken of my rubbish boobs but fingers crossed ill be more than happy with the post-op ones! xx

I found the pre-op really useful, and a good opportunity to ask any questions I had thought of along the way.

For me, it was a case of confirming I understood what the surgeon had suggested for me and what this actually meant – and then a run through of my medical history. They took swabs for MRSA in the nostrils and under my armpits, took my weight, blood pressure and height, and also took some before photos. Some people may have to have a blood test too if they have a more complicated medical history I believe.

She gave me loads of paperwork to take away and read which is all really good advice about how to prepare, what to bring to surgery – healing, things I’ll need etc. We also booked in the 1 week post-op appointment, which will be with the same nurse. It was very informal and useful. Good luck!
