Hi I’m really nervous for my pre op even tho it’s months away! I’m so scared to have a blood test done (I know I’m having surgery and need needles etc) but I was just wondering what actually happens at your pre op, like do you have a blood test, swabs etc? I’m at the Birmingham clinic on the 1st of June xx

I was scared about this cos I hate needles and blood at my pre op all the done was height weight and swaps in mouth and nose and talk to u only reason they do blood tests if they think ur anemic or something I’ve had my op now n even then the one they put in ur hand doesn’t hurt one bit n it’s done with in seconds u have nothing to worry about xx

I had two blood tests but only because I was severely anaemic in Nov so they needed to check iron levels and haemoglobin levels, they don’t do blood tests as routine. If you’ve no history with your bloods the only needle is the cannula for your antibiotic and it literally is a sharp scratch and that’s it. The anaesthetist must do over 10 ops as day so is that experienced he can put the needle in with you barely feeling it- I had my op yesterday and can’t even see where the needle went in now! Hope this helps xxx

Thanks girls you’ve all made me feel at ease now I just really wanted to know all the information about the pre op! Do any of you guys know when you need to come off the pill? I understand she will tell me in my pre op but just wondering now if anybody knows? And ahh thank god the day of the op cannula (if that’s how it’s spelt) doesn’t hurt! What is the feeling like of being put to sleep? Xx

I just closed my eyes when things started to go blurry- it’s quite a nice feeling as its really relaxing. You just feel smashed for a few seconds and then you’re out like a light, it’s so so fast! I was advised to come off my pill for one month before and two weeks after @victoria xxx

Kel i was the same as you i was so scared i had it but i dont and its very very rare. The nurse told me you would need an antibiotic cream to use for 5 days or something and have swabs done every single week for 3/4 weeks xxx

I had to stay for 3 hours after recovery. As long as your blood pressure and temp are fine your allowed home after that. I’d finished in surgery by 9am so was home for early aft! Xx

My admission was 7.30am and I was the first one in… Think was about 8.30 that surgery started. I literally went into my room & got gown, paper pants & compression socks on, they the nurse did pregnancy test, temp & blood pressure, the aneathetist came in to say hi & to ask about any allergies & then surgeon came in, chatted, drew on me, took photos & then I was straight off to surgery- it was all go & really fast! Was back in my own room by 9am, had really regular blood pressure & temp checks, had tea & toast & was allowed to set off home around 12ish! All in one morning! Only day 1 today as that was yesterday, but I’m fine. No pain when I’m just sitting relaxing. Am just being really careful & doing the bare minimum. Can do everything (brush teeth, eat properly, drink normally, put clothes on) but just choosing to do very little! Xxx
