My surgery is booked for the 7th November with Mr Mounir at Preston and I’m so excited but THE ONLY thing I’m scared about is the cannula! I can just about deal with my blood being taken for my pre op on 4th October as I’ve had blood taken before but the cannula is freaking me out. I can even think about it without making my stomach churn. Can the anaesthetist give numbing cream? I know it sounds silly but needles are by far my biggest phobia !

Hey Molly, I’m not too keen on it either and was thinking the same thing! Ask ur nurse at ur pre op or get some numb cream on prescription that’s what I plan to do.

Hey chick. I am the biggest wimp going, I pass out at 99% of my blood tests, even having my blood pressure done makes me feel sick because of the pressure. Ridiculous, I know! Haha.
I was the same as you, I was fine with the thought of surgery as I would be out for it, but the cannula was really scaring me.
I can’t tell you how easy it is. Honestly. I told the guy that did mine, Neil, that I was really scared and he was so good. Just was chatting away with me, made me feel totally comfortable. He had to tell me that he had done it as I didn’t even feel it go in! When I came round I didn’t know it was still there I couldn’t even feel it, I even had a little poke around at it! It must be plastic or something because when the nurse took it out it looked nude coloured and bendy. Honestly poppet you’ve got nothing to be worried about at all! I am the biggest wimp going and I was totally fine. Good luck with your op too! X

Heyy. Im terrified of needles too, I had my op yesterday and just told the anaesthetist he said its not as bad as it seems. I have had tattoos so he used that to calm me down, it really helped I had a nurse holding my hand and the anaesthetist and his assistant keeping me distracted while they did it. Honestly it was like a little nip and that was it. They were so lovely xx

Feeling better about it now hearing from people who have had it already. Just scary when you’ve never had one before. It’s the first time I’ve ever been put under so I’m scaring myself ! Xx
