Can anyone help? I’ve just realised that a flu remedy my husband prepared for me 2 days ago has aspirin – and I took two of them! You aren’t supposed to take it for 2 weeks before an op. OMG – I’m so worried now. Either my op will be cancelled (on 4th and I will lose my money) or I will bleed or something! Anyone have any advice? I’m going to ring PC in the morning. I feel so sad/stupid 🙁

Aspirin thins your blood which is why they advise you not to take it but it is purely precautionary, I don’t think they will cancel your op due to you having this especially as it was a couple days ago. Mention it to your PC just to be on the safe side but I’m sure you’ll be okay xx

Thanks Nikki – but I’ve just read on the web that only after 144 hours (i.e. 6 days) is it absolutely safe to perform surgery – or there is a risk of ‘perioperative bleeding’. You even have to stop taking it before having a tooth out in case the bleeding doesn’t stop. I’m really worried that if I tell them, and the op is cancelled that it will be my fault and I won’t get a refund/new op date. I’m soooo worried, I feel sick 🙁

How many days will it be by your op since you took it? xx

Not even 5 :-(. Im so worried. I think I might just say I’ve got the Norovirus thing – and hope they reschedule. Otherwise it’s my fault and I might lose my money. I was so looking forward to Friday too 🙁 xxxxx

If it was me I would contact your PC/surgeon and be honest. Say you took a cold remedy then realised later it had aspirin in it otherwise you wouldn’t have took it if that’s what they advised. Tell them how much you’ve had and when then they can decide if it’s still ok to operate. It might be fine if you’ve just had a bit and they’re aware of it before hand so they can preempt any potential problems. I think it’s more a precautionary thing for planned ops, like if you were rushed in for an emergency they’d have no choice but to operate and probably would find a way around it.

Try not to worry too much. Worst case scenario I could only see them postponing the op on medical grounds and I wouldn’t have thought they’d be so unfair as to make you lose your money for a genuine mistake. Xx

Thanks for your advice candyfloss. Defo think a reschedule will be in order – scary stuff about your blood not being able to clot – no matter what the dose. People on it for heart probs/stroke are on low dose of 75mg per day – amd they have to stop 7 days before. I took 2 x 600mg doses unknowingly – DOH! I shouldve told the hubby and read the info leaflet more carefully – I only read it today – then asked him what he put in the drink. Will let you know what happens tomorrow x x

I did it too I had cold and took 1 realised it had asprin in it, it was about 5 days before op and I rang nurse she advised that it would be fine cause it was only the 1 I’d took. You will be fine but just ring as a precaution xx

only ur surgeon can tell you whether they’re happy to still operate, so ring ur pc and ask, they mite go and ask the surgeon, its a prcaution and best not to take it but it mite not mean ur op gets cancelled, its up to ur surgeon so all you can do is ring up and ask, if it does need cancellin tho i think it will just be rescheduled, u shouldn’t loose ur money, try not to take any pain killers before ur op unless u really need them, they can affect ur blood aswell x

Well girls, unfortunately, as I expected my surgery got cancelled :-(. There was too high a risk that my blood wouldn’t clot properly, and I would’ve bled to death!!!! Good job I realised I had taken it. They said even a dose such as I had – 600mg was too great a risk and that they would’ve only operated if it was at least the 6th day after taking it (it was only the 5th). I can be rescuduled to another date – but I have to pay £1000 admin costs as it was only 2 days before. I’m proper skint now :-((((((. Thanks for all your help girls – I’ll be desperately awaiting the 28th Jan for my newboobies x x x

You have to pay 1000 pound admin costs? 😮 are you joking thats discusting, I cancelled mine on my op day and was asked to pay nothing. And I’m really suprised they let mine go ahead if they said 1 dose is even enough to make it a risk, my nurse didn’t seem concerned at all :/ xx

I would challenge that they should not charge you a grand that’s disgusting Hun. Some people are getting their augmentations quoted at 4850 then negotiating a grand off so they are ripping you off. X

I just did Kerry – I read in the T&Cs that if the clinic cancels it is £1000, but if I cancel it is only £500! So I rang my PC and quoted this, and she instantly reduced the cjarge to £500. I started crying and she said she would speak to someone and call me back. So, latest is if someone takes my slot on Friday there is no charge, but if they don’t £250! My BA is only £2800, so with the extra charge would be £3050. That is much better. BIG sigh of relief. Fingers crossed for the 28th now x x x x

Ok 250 isn’t too bad especially as you’re getting your ba for a good price. Good luck babe and make sure you find out as how will y know if someone takes the slot or not for sure? But 250 isn’t too bad especially because such a scary risk. Hope all goes well. I’m -6 days post op now and very happy xx

Hi no0108, sorry to see that your op was cancelled cos you must have been looking forward to it but it’s better to be on the safe side if they thought it was a problem.

I’m shocked about the cancellation charges though for a genuine mistake that you actually owned up about, otherwise they wouldn’t even have known! Sounds like they were just trying to make you pay the most they could and see if you would, then when you’ve challenged it suddenly they can reduce it… Did they manage to find someone to take your spot?

On with the new countdown 🙂
