    Hi Ladies,
Just wondering if anyone took their contraceptive pill before, throughout and after surgery?
or were you told to stop? If you stopped how soon after surgery did you start taking it again?
    thank you xxx

    hi Katie,
i was told to stop 2 weeks before and wait for abt 2 weeks after… they advise you to stop taking the pill for the surgery as it can increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis… It is though advisable and not a must. Check with your surgeon or the nurse. it also could be that some of the meds you would take during surgery and recovery period could decrease the effectiveness of the pill.
    hope this helps 😉

Hey Hun it depends what pill you are on .. I am on the mini pill where you don’t have a break and this was fine to take through out the surgery before and after. You will be advised by the nurse before your opp :)xx

I was on normal combined pill, and was told by surgeon that I could stay on it for my BA as they only make stomach or lower body ops come off it due to DVT risk, and that for it to count you need to be off it at least 6 weeks prior to surgery. My mum is also a surgeon (not cosmetic) and she asked me to please come off the pill 6 weeks before for her own peace of mind as she is worrying about me undergoing a GA and wants the risks to be as totally minimised as possible. So I have been off the pill for 4 weeks and have my op in 2 weeks time woopeeee! X
