I have no idea what to do about stopping the pill ive talked to people who have and havnt been told to stop it. At my pre op the nurse didnt mention it but it says on the info that you should discuss this with youre surgeon. Im booked in for a consultation with mr mounir on thursday however my op is two weeks tomorrow so I have no idea what to do. Helpppp. Id preferably not stop it, anyone else been told by mr mounir to stop it or not?

I stopped mine 1 week before and started again 1week after, due to the blood clots etc they prefer you to stop but some people don’t! Ring up your pc or nurse and ask for their advice really the nurse should be giving you advise but ask the surgeon xxx

The reason why before surgery you are asked to stop taking the pill is you are at higher risk of dvt ( deep vein thrombosis ) formation in the deep viens of the legs which can travel into lungs and be fatal. The longer the surgery the higher the risk with that if your a smoker that goes even higher risk, I’d stop it personally but they advise you to but it’s totally up to you xx

As candybabey said they tell you to stop it because it puts you at increase risk of DVT. I stopped taking 2 weeks before and started taking it 1 week after as I am now very mobile again. Personally I don’t think it is worth adding extra risk to your op for the sake of 3 or 4 weeks! xx
