This is something I’m worried about sacrificing. My sleep. I’ve read mixed reviews and in fact advice stating it’s best to wear a band around uper pole of breasts and sleep comfortably (side but not stomach ) as you heal better when sleeping well. Ive also read that ‘dropping’ isnt necessarily aided by sleeping upright?! think my surgeon suggests 6 weeks elevated. What’s the general consensus on sleep. Are you all really sleeping upright for 6 weeks?? Or have we side sleepers after a few week? Xxx

I’ve been told i should sleep upright for two weeks, then you should lay flat for few weeks after that. NO everyone wears a breast band, i haven’t. I wear a Macom bra. All surgeons are different some people on here are strapped up and have drains in after surgery – i had none of those things,. It is hard work sleeping upright but you do manage it, and the first week your so tired anyway you do sleep although your bottom is a bit numb…xx

Thanks Joanna. I have very young children and really cherish good sleep. I’m worried most about this aspect. I’m hoping I take to upright but with reading mixed opinions I’m unsure it’s needed. It’s mostly recommended to reduce swelling in first few days but has no effect on ‘dropping’, obviously everyone should take their surgeons advice though, it’s just a thought. Xx

Ive been researching this the last few days as it’s really taking it’s toll on me (i have a nearly 4 year old with lots of disorders including autism, he wakes roughly 10 – 30 times per night every night and has since birth) so my sleep inbetween re-settling him is sooooo precious, ive been incredibly lucky that at the moment he’s in a phase of 10 times or i think i would have collapsed as hubby works away but my main issue now is that it takes ages to nod off being upright and i have the pain of morning boobs every time i need to see to him, seems like in the US it’s more 3 days for swelling and breathing comolications but after that flat, in Aus they like the full 6 weeks near upright, im 3 weeks post op tomorrow so im half way there but im thinking i might need to give up at 4 weeks cause im struggling, im a side sleeper so im craving returning to that but im deffo not side sleeping till the 6 weeks is up i just have visions of waking up to find my implant has gone into my armpit lol.
At the end of tbe day im trying to stick to Mya rules, then i know ive done everything my surgeon suggested and hope that will give me my best final outcome xxx

Hi Claudine. I know what you mean. It’s the irrational fear of waking up with an implant somewhere else. Lol. It must be so hard for you having to get up frequently all night. My 2 year old is currently going through the prices of autism assessment so I appreciate how demanding they can be. I have very nearly put off my op until he’s a bit older but I’m desperate to do this for me as I feel like all I do is everything for my kids! . I have a 5 year old too who is highly demanding. I know I won’t do 6 weeks upright. It’s interesting as I’ve read that sleeping upright only helps with swelling not necessarily the drop process which happens in its own time as you heal. Realself website encourages sleeping how you like after 3 days but obviously not on front. Hope you are healing well xx
