This is what an infection looks like

Hey girls!

I have a rather epic infection and have done for 2 weeks. I’ve uploaded a picture to show girls worried about infections. Not to put anyone off at all. I’ve seen a lot of women worried about weather their incisions are infected and its really nothing to worry about. 9/10 times you’re just a bit inflamed or red from where your bra rubs or from a bit of a knock.

What i have is a Staph infection. Infections create a hell of a lot of puss and blood and need a lot of antibiotics. There is only a small chance of this actually happening, so you really shouldn’t worry so much about your reddened stitches. Still, by all means, call your nurse if you’re worried. She will put your mind at ease 🙂

Woah Sian that looks so painfull you must be in a lot of pain… Do you know why it got infected or anything or does it just happen. Hope it gets better soon!! Xx

haha Holy Crap indeed. Ive been on antibiotics for nearly 2 weeks. The Puss has slowed a little but im bleeding more. I have to go back to the clinic to have my bandages changed every 2 days. Expensive as hell. Not to mention the prescriptions i have to pay for! I’ve also had to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with my surgeon. Its not painful though and i dont have the fever to go with it, so thats good at least! I still have to work but my co-workers are being super helpful x

haha sorry didn’t mean for that to sound the way it did, i feel like such a wimp now when i was moaning about thinking mine was infected!! i hope it gets better soon, bless you 🙁 do you know how it got infected? 🙁 xxx

Oh no this has been going on for you for quite some time now.

I know you didnt mean anything Amy 🙂 I ddnt even assume you did! I’ve only posted what my infection looks like to help other girls feel better about their possible infections. To show it could always be worse. I’m in no way trying to put anyone off as my boobs look great from the top lol x

Oh, also, I’m 6 weeks post Op now. My incisions are completely healed, i just have this nasty infection. I wonder when i can wear a normal bra? :/

Yeah it is. The picture shows the infection under both boobs

Are your nipples ok? One of mine keeps puffing up. . Sort of swelling up and going a bit white… every morning. Buy by the time ive ealked to bathroom its gone back down.

Well they were ok, but then the nurse put the plaster that covered my infection over a nipple scab and it came off when she replaces it. SO now i have an infection where the scab was too. I’ve not heard of your problem though!

Have u actually seen the surgeon yet? Sounds and looks like you need Iv antibiotics…ask why they haven’t done that (message Julie Dawes she suffered a nasty infection too…) once again hope u get better soon x

Yeah ive been wondering why they havent given me IV antibiotics too to be honest because my infection looks so bad and i’m on my second lot of tablets!! I’ve had to wait over 2 weeks to get an apointment with my surgeon. I finally get to see him Monday. I feel so down spending all this money adn having them look so bad underneith! x

Ask them why you haven’t had Iv antibiotics in my experience any infection on a new wound post op needs to be treated aggressively. Obviously they make a clinical decision with facts in front if them but ?? Did they email the pic of it to your surgeon ( who was it?)

Hopefully it’s just part of the journey to a fab pair of boobs x

Yeah they emailed a picture to my surgeon (mr singh) As far as im aware he just told the nurse it was infected and just to give me antibiotics. They had to get another doctor to sign my prescription though, without seeing it himself. When i saw the nurse a couple of days ago she said it looks a little better. That just means less puss but a lot more blood though. Plus i have a new infection!! The plaster they used to cover my underboob infection was put over part of my nipple that still had a scab on it (the sticky outer part of the plaster). It pulled it off and because it was open then that got infected. Its not really agony, just when theyre cleaning it up every 2 days. Thankyou for being so supportive though everyone. I appreciate it xx

If you don’t get a serious direction on how they are going to go to sort this issue for you then go to a and e. I don’t want to worry you but you need to get on top of the infection and it sounds like it’s spreading! In fact Id go there anyway for a second opinion.

I already went to a+e. They gave me antibiotics before MYA did. They didnt swab me or anything though. Just gave me a prescription and and told me to buy more plasters… I’m seeing MR Singh today though. Had to change my bandages myself last night, even though hte urse said she would prefer if just she did that. I was leaking blood and stuff. I paid way too much money for this 🙁

I think I just saw you lol At Birmingham clinic. You have just been called in im still waiting in reception. Black fluffy coat and you said something about smelling like a wet dog because of the rain and your coat. Was that you?

Lauren, it doesnt sound like you have an infection. Especially if you cant see anything on the surface/any redness/swelling and ur stitches look fine!! If its quite soon after your op its bound to feel weird when you push them. Mine do and im 6 weeks post op! Im sure you have nothing to worry about. Seriously. But call your nurse if i havent calmed you a little/your still worried!

Right, My appointment with Dr Singh today!

The nurse took my plasters off so the dr cound look at them. They said it looked really good. The wounds havent shrunk at all and theyre still big open sores but apparently no puss. The fact that theyre bleeding a lot is also good news? If there is a lot of blood flow to the area theres more chance of better/cleaner healing? Still not fun bleeding all over yourself though. I havent been prescribed any more antibiotics, i run out tomorrow, but im on some new treatment under my bandages that burns/cauterises the wounds? Apparently burning the open sores leads to better and cleaner skin regrowth and less chance of scaring. Although burning sounds god aweful i cant feel anything. Except itching. The Dr said that if i do develop scars within the next 6 months then he will take me back into surgery to minimise them as much as possible.

Apart from that he seemed pretty impressed with his own work and was really complimentary. he seemed really happy/supprised with my rate of healing on my insisions and the fact i have no raised scars or redness to my insisions. He said i’ve healed really quick in that respect and thats he’s really happy with his work.

When someone said your name both hubby and i looked up as we have the same name lol I then i went onto the mya forum on my phone to see if you said you were visiting today and as I was reading it you got called in.. or I would of said hello. I thought you might come back in to the waiting room but you didn’t.

I was the one sitting on the double sofa with my hubby with the long red hair. don’t suppose you remember me as i don’t think you looked at me. We were really late for our appointment as the motorway was at a standstill and we saw it just in time before we entered the slipway and so we took another route but whatever way we turned we were greeted by traffic. It took 2 hours for a 45 min journey!

I might be going back into surgery too but Mr Singh wants to wait to see what happens. i have to go and see him in 3 months time when i will be 6 months po..

Of course i saw you. You had awesome hair and bright leggings. Like a younger vivienne Westwood i thought lol I hope yours are good and you dont end up neededing another surgery! x

Its my tummy that i will need more surgery on.. although Mr Singh did say i had a bit of scar breakdown underneath my boobs so not sure if he would correct that. I have bad dog ears at the end of my scar line both sides and my skin has gone lumpy by scar.. but it might change with time.. i hope it will as don’t want to go through all this again!

Its been a while since i posted a new picture so i’ve done just that!! Took a couple in between dressing changes. I’m 9 weeks 5 days PO now. My stars look incredible. Wounds aren’t so great but they not green. So i got that going for me…

Hi Sian, I’m so sorry to hear what’s happened to you at what should be a really happy time. It has to be said that your positive attitude in this situation is something to be admired! I hope that in the end you do get the results you set out for because you certainly deserve it! xx

Thanks Charlene 🙂 And everyone!! Its really not easy. There are downsides to what i have. A lot. Including being nearly 10 weeks and not being able to wear a bra or do any excorcise. Ive put on so much weight 🙁 But it’s the little things that make it worth it. Like Boob symetry. Or the squidgy ‘real’ feeling i have now. Or even the fact that i amused myself for a good half an hour with some nipple tassles i found trying to see if i could make them spin. I got it in the end haha

Haha sian, that made me chuckle about the nipple tassles, glad to hear things are improving although slowly, have they given you a time frame for roughly how long it will be until you are fully healed? And also, when the infection 1st appeared were you already healed, as your pics look amazing and on a couple I couldn’t see anything that looked like it could lead to an infection xx
