So my op was scheduled for Monday 7th December. I get a call at 3pm today (4th dec) to tell me they are postponing my surgery pending further investigation into past mental health issues I have had. I disclosed this at my first consultation and they said that it was no problem as it was around 5 years ago. So so devastated! I’d already got my admission time and had hotel and parking booked (Β£100 down the drain) not to mention how hard it is to book time off work. Absolutely gutted. They’ve not given me any extra info either, I’m in limbo πŸ™

Ohhhh nooo ? that’s awful news! When you disclosed everything, were you asked to provide a letter from your doctor?! Everything I disclosed at consultation and pre-op had to be discussed in a letter from my G.P to state that it was all resolved! Xx

They didn’t say they needed anything but they must have requested notes. They said they got 2 sets of GP notes but they want a specialist opinion πŸ™

I’m hoping they dont try And do the same with me!! What has mental health 5 years ago got to do with anything?! Iv paid in full and that is the only time I can have my op as my partner can’t take time off work so if they try the same with me I will be demanding a refund. You should get your hotel money back too xx

@lauren1991 yes I did pay in full.
I’m a phd student doing scientific research and I’ve planned all my experiments for the next 4-5 months around this!!
Good luck with your op though @rebecca2329, and punch mr marcellino in the face for me as he made the decision to postpone πŸ™ x

Thank you. Are you in a similar position then? The second I saw them calling I thought it was going to be bad news. I just wish they’d given me some indication that there MIGHT be an issue and I could have sorted it in time x

I did get a call back from the nurse, but did’t really get any extra info as none of the senior people are in at the weekend. Her recommendation was going to a therapist, but then you can’t have surgery until 6 MONTHS after you finish therapy. FML. This is the only thing that will MAKE me depressed. I was so happy and totally excited to be having my op and now I feel like the rug has been pulled from under my feet. Feels like a sick joke. I was pressured and pressured to book my op ASAP, when I would have happily had my op around Easter time. Now it looks like it will be at least july next year. feels like they lured me in just to take it away at the last minute x

@fleckers23 That’s terrible. I’m booked for Easter due to my work, but you were still given the all okay to have the surgery by your doctor. Exactly, a knock back on the surgery date must is so bad! I really hope it gets sorted for you asap. Maybe talk to your GP and get them to talk to MYA and let them know again it’s ok?

I’m going to see my GP on Monday, and hopefully get a look at what the notes they sent to MYA actually said. The nurse kept saying that the GP’s opinion isn’t enough and that they need a “specialist opinion”.
I was completely ready to have this surgery on this specific date. I feel so put out that I’m considering not even having the surgery anymore, but I don’t know where I stand on getting a refund as I am way past the cooling off period. But if they are the ones delaying everything then surely I’m not to blame?x

The exact same thing happened to me re: my op on November 20th. I was absolutely fine before and this situation has made me very upset, ironically! I complained to head office, I’m glad that at least the nurse now knows to say you can’t have the op until 6 months post therapy. I disclosed that I finished therapy in September from my first consultation- was told it was fine then my op got cancelled 2 days before on the basis that my therapist said I had experienced suicidal thoughts in the past. My therapist even wrote another email when I told her to say she didn’t think I was unfit and they should call her if they want. They didn’t. I complained to head office and they agreed with my therapist! But explained I couldn’t have it anyway until 6 months therapy free. Drama and upset. X

    Hi Lola,

Have you had a refund yet? After a weekend of trying to contact people I got a new doctors letter double clearing I was ok for surgery, but mya still said no. They’ve issued a refund but it’s probably not going to come through for me until after Xmas x

Yeah I got one after 16 days and a few upset emails. I genuinely do feel for you because I know the overwhelming disappointment. Why the opinion of a medical professional after consulting your medical history is not enough I do not know! X

They did this to me told me they needed more info on a lung surgery from few years prior they had me pay for breathing tests have an X-ray AND get a letter of the surgeon that did my surgery and after all that they said they wouldn’t do the op they did this 2 days before I was due to have my op I was absolutely furious as I’d told the surgeon and was told there would be no problem in the end I cancelled and got a refund I certainly wouldn’t recommend mya and it seems to be happening a lot

I’ve been offered a surgery date elsewhwere, but its only 8 days away. I think there’s no chance I can get the money back that quickly πŸ™ Have either of you had success elsewhere?x

Myas response to me asking for my extra expenses back:

The credit card fee cannot be refunded as this is a charge that the patient incurs for using her credit card to make a payment.

We were not aware of the hotel booking, so it was not authorised by Mya, so this can’t be refunded as we were not made aware and it wasn’t confirmed as needed by MYA.

Grrrrrrr!! I wouldn’t have had to use my credit card at all if they hadn’t told me I could have the procedure in the first place!!??
And I told my PC more than once I would book a hotel to stay the night before as I lived far away!

@fleckers23 Hiya, sorry to nosey in but I read one of your responses from MYA and was sure I had read something in one of my booklets lmao! I don’t know if this helps, but it actually says in ‘Breast Augmentation – Patient Information Feb 2015’ that you must ‘ensure that you are an hour away or less from your operating hospital on the night following your surgery’ (on page 3 under ‘pre-operative information’). You could argue that you booked the hotel according to their terms..that’s if you live more than an hour away lmao! And as you have to have someone with you for 24hours, you have good ground to argue the full cost of the hotel booking!! Xx

    @ashytonnn
Hey, yeh it was the night before. I was actually disobeying the rules by going home after. It’s only an hour and 10 min on the train but about 2 hours by car. Oops. But I asked my PC for info on the complaints procedure and sonehow they are now happy to refund my hotel ☺️ X
