Hi meganleigh …. You don’t really need that much. I took a big tin of Vaseline (your lips and mouth will be unbelievably dry), a magazine, my iPad and phone and a toothbrush and paste. Your usual beauty regime will go out the window for a little while after your nose op. I wore a t-shirt with a big wide neck that didn’t catch on my face and a zip up. Pack a bottle of water for your journey home. You won’t believe how much water u will get thru! Also take a dressing gown to wear on your walk down to theatre. Other than that, u really won’t need much else. Best of luck. X

I think park hill in Doncaster must be tight …. I had to take my own dressing gown. They even ran out of coffee when I was there, how rubbish is that?!!

What is the average time for your nose to look normalish (enough to go out and about, to work etc?) I’m going to take around two weeks off bit anxious I’ll still be bruised/swollen :/

I think about 2 weeks should I’d it for the bruising. Swelling is something altogether different and varies depending on the person and whether it was closed or open. It can take up to 2-3 months for significant swelling to go down, but some surgeons say anywhere between 6 – 12 months or longer before it goes down completely. Open rhino and tip work carries a lot of swelling from what I have read, but you get a much better result this way (as I think I am about to find out to my dear cost tomorrow when I get my splint off).

Thanks hun that’s really helpful. Yeah I’ve heard some bad stories about swelling! Guess it will take a while but I’m
not too worried if I can have my new nose! Yeah I should find out tomorrow if I’m having open or closed….good luck with having your splint off! How has recovery been?

Recovery not been too bad. It’s more uncomfortable than painful. My throat has been v sore, mouth constantly dry and I don’t sleep very well at all. Your skin turns to s**t, you can’t wash your hair, although my lovely hubby washed my hair for me on Sunday (he’s fab!) and you generally look pretty manky for a week …. Apart from that its ace!! You just have to keep in mind why you did it and focus on the end result. In the grand scheme on things it’s a short span of time to get through. V nervous about having my splint off tomorrow, hope to god I like my new nose or I honestly think I’m going to cry in front of my surgeon!!

NikkiB is right I am 3 weeks post op from open rhino and my nose is very swollen my surgeon told me it can take 3 months for significant swelling to go down but can take a year to see the final result! My bruising has just gone I went back to work after two weeks but my concealer hid the bruising quite well x

That’s good to hear about the pain. Hate being bunged up and love eating so I’m dreading that a bit lol! Oh really? Haven’t seen anything mentioned about skin do you mean just on your nose or all over? I can put up with a bit manky tho! Aw that’s nice you had him around to look after you. Oh you sound like me I’ll def be so nervous to see for the first time eek! I’m sure you’ll love it though you will have to keep us updated! 🙂

My normally clear and well kept skin morphed into a teenage grease feet! I was allergic to the big plaster that went over my splint onto my cheeks and by day 4 I felt like my cheeks were being blow torched. I had to trim away some of the plaster to reveal a beautiful red spotty mess on my cheeks. It’s red, raised and sore. Flipping nightmare!! Apparently your skin gets a good old mauling during the surgery which increases the activity from the skins sebaceous glands, leaving you with quite greasy skin. I’m 42 and currently have the skin of an 18 year old (not in a good way either) My Liz Earle is having to work double time to sort out. I dread to think what I’m going to find under the splint tomorrow ….. More of the same I would imagine!

Oh wow! Not good! My skin is clear mainly because of the pill would hate to have teenage skin again! But it’s good to hear and at least I’m getting prepared! I hope when you get your splint off fingers crossed it will start to improve. Let us know. Guess I haven’t really thought about how much the skin will be moved. Hope your liz Earle is doing the trick. I use just aqueous cream usually so maybe I’ll have to invest in some…

No I only told my manager in case something went wrong but when I went in I told everyone because I was comfortable telling people and plus I look different to how I used to so didn’t want people staring ha but everyone was really nice and supportive and said it looked good 🙂
I just cleaned my face with face wipes and toner but when I had my cast taken off I had little spots from where the plaster was stuck down but I exfoliated my face apart from nose and that helped x

Yeah I’m debating whether to tell my manager just in case I need extra recovery time. I’ll be so nervous the first day I go in having to tell everyone…thanks so much girls it’s nice to hear your experiences x

Thank you! 🙂 Yeah the computer image was so helpful I really hope it looks like he says it will. Aw that’s good to hear and I’m sure you’ll love it once the swelling has reduced. Who was your surgeon? I guess it’s good to feel like they know what you want but if you’re happy with the result I guess that’s all that matters. Must be a relief to have the cast off 😀 x

I had septo-rhino due to accident, I had the op in September. The first night was uncomfortable but the nurses were so mean with pain killers! Lol, I brought button – front pjs..(a zip-up cotton onesie might be a good idea), toothpaste/brush, Vaseline (like the other girls said, your moth and lips will be dryer than the Sahara!!), arnica pillules for swelling(amazing!!), face wipes & moisturiser.. (I didn’t use them though!), then zip-up hoody & leggings & baseball cap for journey home 🙂 I went home the next morning I had no pain once I took my paracetamol & difene every 4hours..slept at my parents for 1 week as I have a boisterous 3yr old son. Couldn’t believe how great I felt! The surgeon said he did a lot of work to repair and that a regular rhino wouldn’t be as sore.. So it’s completely bareable 🙂 just take your meds religiously for the first few days then see how your pain is. I had minimal bruising and I was out in town shopping the day I got the splint off (1week post-op) no one would have known.

When I was 6weeks post-op my son elbowed me in the nose, then the next day he head butted me in the nose… (Both accidental) Here is where I cried with pain 🙁 now I need a revision for a couple bumps from the trauma, going back in July. So annoying, but he said the surgery will be a breeze compared to the initial surgery.

Best of luck with your op! X
