I’ve had my surgery on the 11th of September. I’m day 10 post op and I’m only now starting to do some normal things. I drove for the first time on Day 8 and it absolutely killed. Nurse said it was fine to drive if I could handle it, so I tried and managed to do it but getting it into 5th gear and reverse was painful. I had under the muscle High profile implants. I’ve come on here to ask if there was anyone else who did care work and how long until they went back to work? Unfortunately I am bank so I won’t get paid for being off and I need to make sure I go back by the second week of October to get money for November. I’m so worried about moving people up the beds and doing any sort of manual handling. I work in the hospital and do nights so I’d need to make sure I’m safe.
    Just curious about others?
    Let me know!
    Thanks – Jess x

Hello, I do care work too in a nursing home. I went back to work yesterday after having two weeks off I had my surgery on the 5th and had under muscle too. I managed to arrange with my manager to put me on light duties and put me with residents that are independent so I didn’t have to use much manual handling, is there anyway you can discuss with your manager to sort something or explain to the staff you may need a little more help than normal for a couple of weeks I’m sure they will help out especially with you working in a hospital they should be more aware that you need to be gentle on yourself?
I was worried about going back to work as I didn’t tell anyone I was having my breast done but they found out I did and they were more helpful and fussed over me which was nice. Hope everything goes well for you X

Oh thanks for your reply hun!
I too was thinking of going back 2-3 weeks post op. My only issue is that because I work nights, there is sometimes only 2 health cares on and they pair up to do the heavy checks. That I’m slightly worried about but I’m hoping I’ll heal more in the next few weeks. Thanks for your help xx

You could always ask your surgeon to write you a fit note if you don’t feel ready to go back to work, especially as your job requires heavy lifting. I have my surgery this coming week ( not with mya) and I was advised at my pre op that if I need a fit note,I should just ask. Hopefully I won’t need one as I’ve booked 2 weeks off, but nice to know I can ask if I need to. I know you said you are a bank worker so don’t get paid if your off but at least with a fit note you should get statutory sick pay ( not great, but better than nothing). Good luck
